Associate, Investment Banking | Conventional Energy | Houston, TX
Arco Talent Group has been retained by a leading investment bank to identify an Associate to join its Conventional Energy Investment Banking group in Houston. This is an opportunity to join a high-performing team advising clients across E&P, midstream, downstream, and oilfield services on M&A, divestitures, A&D transactions, capital raising, and strategic advisory, as the firm significantly expands its dedicated conventional energy coverage out of Houston. The group operates at the heart of the global energy complex, where commodity cycles and capital markets access continue to reshape how energy companies grow, consolidate, and optimize their portfolios.
The Role
As Associate, you will serve as a day-to-day execution lead on live M&A and A&D mandates, working within a small execution team structure that provides significant client exposure and direct access to senior bankers. You will manage junior resources, oversee financial modeling and diligence workstreams, and play a meaningful role in the group's continued growth across the conventional energy sector.
What You Will Do
- Execute M&A, A&D, divestiture, and capital raising mandates across the conventional energy value chain, spanning upstream, midstream, downstream, and oilfield services, supporting all workstreams from process launch through close, including asset packages, corporate transactions, spin-offs, carve-outs, LBOs, and joint ventures
- Oversee and assist financial modeling and valuation across DCF, comparable company, and precedent transaction analysis, alongside sector-specific approaches including NAV and reserve analysis for upstream and cash flow and contract-based modeling for midstream and downstream assets, building fully integrated three-statement models and relevant sensitivities
- Draft and prepare pitchbooks, CIMs, management presentations, and investor materials for live mandates and new business development across corporates, private equity sponsors, and family offices
- Conduct extensive quantitative and qualitative research across the conventional energy value chain, spanning upstream, midstream, downstream, and oilfield services markets
- Coordinate due diligence processes across technical consultants, reserve engineers, legal counsel, environmental advisors, and accounting teams
- Manage Analysts and oversee related work streams, providing day-to-day coaching, quality control, and workflow management on active deals
- Support senior bankers on origination activity, including sector coverage strategy, pitch preparation, and client development across the Houston corporate and sponsor community
- Actively participate in client meetings, industry conferences, and external training sessions
What We Are Looking For
- 3+ years of experience, including at least 1-2 years of M&A execution at a top-tier bank or adviser; conventional energy sector experience across upstream, midstream, downstream, or oilfield services strongly preferred
- Strong technical foundation in energy sector valuation, including DCF, comparable company, and precedent transaction analysis, with familiarity across upstream NAV and reserve analysis and midstream or downstream cash flow modeling
- Strong financial modeling skills, with the ability to build detailed, fully integrated financial models and projections to assess the impact of proposed transaction options on capital structure and cash flows
- Familiarity with energy-specific structures such as RBL facilities, volumetric production payments, royalty transactions, and midstream contract structures is a plus
- Exceptional analytical, quantitative, and communication skills, with strong interpersonal ability to express ideas with impact
- Ability to operate with autonomy and manage multiple workstreams simultaneously in a fast-paced, deal-intensive environment
- Graduate of a leading business school, or Analyst promote
