Description

Software Engineer

Flowapt · Cape Town · In Person

Flowapt helps e-commerce businesses manage their customer engagement in one place. Our product, FlowIQ, is an all-in-one help desk powered by AI support agents that handle support and sales conversations end to end. It pulls WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, email, and web chat into a single inbox, wired straight into Shopify, WooCommerce, and Magento.

For our clients it's simple. They talk to their customers faster, sell more, and stop drowning in messages.

We're an agentic-first company in one of the most in-demand categories in tech right now. You'd build with cutting-edge AI every single day, not as a feature bolted on the side, but as the core of the product. And you'd be early enough to shape the codebase, the architecture, and the way we ship, with the room and the mandate to own real surface area and grow it.

We're looking for the engineer who turns "can FlowIQ do this?" into shipped, working software our clients rely on.

The role

This is the build engine of Flowapt. You take features from idea to live, across the whole stack: the customer-facing inbox, the AI agent runtime, the integrations, the database, and the production systems that keep it all running. You write the code our clients talk to their customers through every day.

It's a big, full-stack role built for real ownership. Not a ticket-closer in someone else's machine. The person who decides how things get built and makes sure they actually work in production.

What you'll own

Building and shipping

  • Take features end to end, from a React/TypeScript frontend through Supabase edge functions, a Postgres data layer, and the external APIs they talk to
  • Build and tune the AI support agents that hold live customer conversations: prompts, tool-calling, reliability, the lot
  • Ship daily, across many client organisations, on one shared codebase

Integrations

  • Own the connective tissue between FlowIQ and the platforms our clients live in: Shopify, WooCommerce, and Magento, the full Meta ecosystem (WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger), email, and payments
  • Build OAuth flows, webhook pipelines, and sync jobs that don't drop data
  • Root-cause cross-system failures and close them before they reach a client

Data and platform

  • Design and own database schema, migrations, and queries that stay fast as we scale
  • Build the scheduled jobs and background systems that keep subscriptions, orders, and messaging running around the clock
  • Keep a multi-tenant system safe, so one client's change is never another client's problem

Production and reliability

  • Deploy, monitor, and operate what you build. You own it after it ships, not just until merge
  • Spot the failure before the client does, and build the safeguard that stops it happening again
  • Be the single point of accountability when something in production needs to move

What you bring

  • You've built full-stack web applications before, ideally with React/TypeScript and a modern serverless or cloud backend (Supabase, Postgres, edge or serverless functions)
  • You're genuinely fluent with AI, the Vercel AI SDK, OpenAI, Anthropic's Claude, tool-calling and agents, and you use AI to build faster, not just to ask questions
  • You understand e-commerce and messaging. Shopify, WooCommerce, and the Meta ecosystem aren't new to you
  • You can own a feature from idea to production and stand behind it, including the parts that aren't fun
  • You stay calm and sharp under pressure, and you bring order to a fast-moving codebase
  • You take initiative without being asked. You see the gap and you close it

What success looks like

In your first few months, you'll be shipping real features into production with confidence and a clear read on how the system fits together. By six months, you own whole areas of the product, integrations, the agent layer, or core platform, and the team trusts them to you. By a year, FlowIQ is meaningfully more capable and more reliable because of what you've built, and you're shaping not just the code, but how we build.

How we work

People-first, and we mean it. Calm execution over chaos. Accountability and transparency as the default, not the exception. We ship, we own what we ship, and we build category-defining software. We want someone who wants to build it with us.
