Description

Game Playtester Intern

Remote | Part-Time | Unpaid Internship | 3 to 6 Months

Read this if you want to get your foot in the door of the video game industry

We are building My Life as a Spy, an online multiplayer spy game set in an alternate-reality 1987.

We are a real indie game studio with a real team, real players, and real momentum. We have already started public playtests, players are giving us feedback, and we are preparing to enter video game festivals.

This is a chance to join an indie game studio as a playtester intern and be part of the early ride.

If you love games and want your first experience in the video game industry, this is for you.

What you will do

Your role is simple: you will play early versions of My Life as a Spy during live multiplayer playtests and give us honest feedback.

You will help us answer important questions:

  • Is the game fun?
  • Is it confusing?
  • What feels good?
  • What feels bad?
  • What bugs did you find?
  • What would make the game better?

You do not need professional experience. You do not need to be a programmer. You do not need to be a game designer. You just need to play the game, pay attention, and give honest feedback.

Time commitment

This is very part-time.

  • Most interns will join 1 to 2 playtests per month.
  • Each playtest usually lasts around 2 to 3 hours.
  • Most playtests happen on weekends.
  • You do not have fixed daily hours.
  • You do not need to work every day.
  • You only need to join scheduled playtests when you are available.

What you get

This is an unpaid internship, but it is a real opportunity to get experience with a game studio.

You will get:

  • Experience playtesting a real online multiplayer indie game
  • Early access to My Life as a Spy
  • A chance to be part of a game entering festivals
  • Experience giving feedback to a real development team
  • A portfolio-building opportunity for people interested in games, QA, game design, or production
  • A certificate of completion for active participants
  • A possible letter of recommendation for strong contributors
  • A chance to be considered for future paid QA or playtesting roles if the studio needs them later

We are building something ambitious. Our goal is to take this game to festivals, streamers, Steam, and beyond.

If the game wins, you can say you were part of the early group that helped test it.

Who this is for

This is a good fit if you:

  • Love video games
  • Want to get experience in the game industry
  • Are interested in QA, playtesting, game design, production, or indie game development
  • Can join online multiplayer sessions
  • Can give honest feedback in simple English
  • Can report bugs clearly if you find them
  • Are reliable and respectful during playtests

You do not need perfect English. Simple English is okay. You do not need previous game industry experience.

Who we are NOT looking for

  • People who expect this to be a paid role right now
  • People who cannot join live playtests
  • People who sign up but disappear
  • People who are toxic, rude, or disruptive during multiplayer sessions
  • People who cannot install and run a PC game
  • People who cannot give basic written feedback after playing

Requirements

  • Age 18 or older
  • A computer that can run the game
  • Internet connection
  • Discord or another communication tool for playtest instructions
  • Ability to join live playtests
  • Willingness to give honest feedback after playing

Important details

  • This is an unpaid internship.
  • This is not a full-time job.
  • This is not a paid QA role.
  • This is a light, part-time opportunity for people who want experience with a real indie game studio.
  • The main responsibility is simple: play the game during scheduled playtests and give us feedback.

About the game

My Life as a Spy is an online multiplayer spy game where players compete, deceive, investigate, and survive inside a stylized noir city.

We are building the game with a growing team of programmers and 3D artists. We recently started public playtesting, and now we are preparing for our next phase: bigger playtests, festivals, streamers, and public visibility.

We are looking for people who want to join the ride early.
