Position Title: Seasonal Coach – Assistant Tennis Coach

Location: Claremont, CA - Onsite

Reports To: Director of Athletics

Position Status: Seasonal, Part-Time

Position Summary

Working under the direction of the Director of Athletics and in collaboration with the Head Tennis Coach, the Assistant Tennis Coach helps deliver a high-quality athletic experience that emphasizes skill development, sportsmanship, teamwork, and compliance with CIF regulations.

This role is responsible for creating a safe, competitive, and developmentally appropriate program that reflects Webb's mission and values, where every student-athlete is valued and supported for who they are, the unique contributions they make to the team, and their continued growth as an athlete.

Primary Responsibilities

Coaching & Student-Athlete Development

  • Assist in planning and conducting team practices and skill development sessions.
  • Teach sport-specific skills, tactics, and rules.
  • Provide instruction, encouragement, and constructive feedback during practices and competitions.
  • Support the supervision of student-athletes during practices, contests, and team activities.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful team culture.
  • Promote good sportsmanship, accountability, and personal growth.

Program Support

  • Support the implementation of the program vision established by the Director of Athletics and Head Coach.
  • Assist with daily team operations, communication, and logistics.
  • Help prepare the team for league and CIF competition.
  • Encourage the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes throughout the season.

CIF Compliance & Safety

  • Follow all CIF, league, and Webb Schools policies and procedures.
  • Help maintain a safe training and competition environment.
  • Support the monitoring of student-athlete attendance, eligibility, and well-being.
  • Model appropriate conduct and uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: 1+ years playing and/or coaching experience or equivalent in tennis.

Core Competencies/Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with high school students.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to student-athlete development and educational athletics.
  • A current California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record may be required.
  • A criminal background check must be successfully completed before employment can begin.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to actively coach and demonstrate tennis skills.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and supervise practices and competitions for extended periods.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

The estimated pay scale represents the typical pay range The Webb Schools reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale applies to the current posting only.
