Associate Merchant

Overview:

Veronica Beard is seeking a detail-oriented and trend-driven Associate Merchant specializing in denim to support the development and execution of the denim business across key classifications (Jeans, Pants, Shorts, Skirts, and Jackets). This role partners cross-functionally with Design, PD, Production, Planning, and Allocation to build assortments that align with brand vision, customer demand, and financial goals. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of denim fits, washes, fabrication, and market trends, along with a passion for product and consumer behavior. This individual will report into the VBJ Senior Merchant.

Responsibilities:

• Support the development and execution of seasonal denim assortments, in close partnership with the Senior Merchant and design leads.
• Support Senior Merchant in seasonal assortment building and DTC buying process during market.
• Analyze weekly business performance, including sales, inventory, markdowns, and customer trends, to identify opportunities and risks.
• Support month-end and quarter-end reporting, including selling decks and attribute deep dives.
• Monitor attribute selling on a weekly basis and analyze performance by silhouette, rise, leg shape, fabrication, and wash.
• Conduct competitive and market research on denim trends, pricing, fits, washes, and emerging brands.
• Develop and maintain Product Knowledge Guides for Sales, E-comm, and Store teams.
• Stay informed on market trends and competitive landscape to help identify opportunities.
• Build strong cross-functional relationships and contribute to a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising, Business, Marketing, or related field.
• 2–4 years of merchandising or buying experience, preferably in denim or women’s apparel.
• Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel.
• Understanding of denim construction, fit, washes, fabrications, and market trends.
• Strong communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
• Experience working with premium, contemporary, or direct-to-consumer brands preferred.
• Familiarity with assortment planning and retail KPIs a plus.
• Understanding of denim innovation and emerging consumer trends ideal.

The salary for this role is up to $70,000. The relevant salary will vary depending on wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training, degrees, and certifications. The base salary is just one component of our total compensation offerings, which consist of a comprehensive benefits package as well as a short-term incentive program, clothing allowance, and merchandise discounts.
