Sports and Recreation planners identify, understand, plan, project manage and deliver facilities & infrastructure that is responding from and aligning to the needs of the community.

This unique and rewarding position allows you to walk side-by-side with the community, getting to know, understand, plan, design and deliver aspirational sports and recreation facilities that enable our community for generations to come.

Your role will include but not limited to:

  • Strategic planning, and expert sport and recreation advice
  • Identify and drive funding and grant opportunities across local, state, federal and private organisations
  • Well scoped, clearly defined end-to-end project management delivery and oversight.
  • Prior experience navigating complex political, potentially divisive or emotive and highly visible community projects, infrastructure and stakeholder management
  • Communicating and messaging that is targeted and tailored to deliberately align style, timing, means of communication and relevant detail as per the needs of the community, stakeholder, councillor, council reputation and optimal outcomes allow
  • Preparing reports, identifying opportunities and utilising data and collaborative relationships to help inform best practice community outcomes and infrastructure
  • Develop and maintain key partnerships and relationships, building trust and your ability to influence and drive optimal community and council outcomes

Qualification, knowledge, skills, and experience

  • Extensive practical experience delivering the development of sport, and recreation within a complex political environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge in development, implementation and evaluation of projects, programs and services designed to build capacity for sport, recreation and physical activity organisations.
  • Passion for learning how to design the facilities and recreation required for the community, with a curiosity to know how you can enable the best outcomes
  • Experience in sports and recreation design is highly regarded
  • Intuitive, tailored, engaging and collaborative stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • The ability to influence, negotiate, remain impartial and personable.
