About The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Frontend Engineer to join our Client Data & Networking Platform team remotely from the USA. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for shaping the data layer of Airbnb’s client technology stack, including the GraphQL runtime, client networking infrastructure, and developer tooling. Your expertise will directly influence how frontend engineers across the organization build reliable, scalable, and data-rich features. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product engineers and infrastructure specialists, to design and implement innovative solutions that improve developer productivity and enhance user experiences. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead technical initiatives, influence engineering strategy, and mentor engineering talent within a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of industry experience in frontend development or related fields.
• Extensive experience with TypeScript for developing complex web applications.
• Proven expertise in designing and integrating GraphQL and REST APIs.
• Experience working within Platform, Infrastructure, or Developer Productivity teams at medium to large engineering organizations.
• Strong understanding of client networking, performance optimization, caching strategies, client storage solutions, and asynchronous programming.
• Experience mentoring and leading engineering teams, promoting best practices for web client development.
• Ability to influence technical strategy and prioritize initiatives across large organizations.
• Interest in developing internal tooling and CLI applications; experience with AI solutions is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Partner with product teams to understand their challenges, pilot solutions, and promote adoption of standardized tooling and frameworks.
• Collaborate with Android and iOS engineers to develop cross-platform foundational solutions.
• Work with infrastructure and product foundation teams to build and enhance capabilities on the platform.
• Participate in all phases of software development, including architecture design, implementation, testing, and on-call support.
• Drive engineering best practices, code quality, and performance standards across teams.
• Mentor and grow engineering talent, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
• Influence technical decisions and contribute to shaping the strategic direction of the client data and networking platform.
