ABOUT THE ROLE
Motad, a Dubai-based integrated marketing and creative agency, is hiring a Remote Art Director to lead our design function, manage a distributed creative team, and stay hands-on with key creative work. This is a leadership role rather than a purely execution-based one: the Art Director will set creative direction across accounts, personally deliver priority visuals, and bring AI tools into the team's workflow to increase speed and output quality.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Own creative direction across all client accounts, from concept to final delivery
• Lead and manage a remote team of designers, including workflow planning, feedback, and quality control
• Personally design and execute key visuals for priority accounts and high-stakes deliverables, not just direct them
• Review and approve all design output before it reaches account managers or clients
• Translate client briefs and account manager input into clear creative direction for the team
• Present concepts directly to clients and internal stakeholders when needed
• Manage timelines and resourcing across multiple concurrent projects and deadlines
• Set and maintain design standards, templates, and brand guidelines across accounts
• Identify and roll out AI tools that speed up design production (ideation, asset generation, retouching, video/motion) and train the team to use them effectively
• Coordinate with copywriters, account managers, and performance teams to keep creative aligned with campaign goals
• Onboard and mentor junior and mid-level designers
• Report on team output, timelines, and resourcing needs to the Business Head
REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field
• 7+ years of design experience, with at least 2 years in a team lead or managerial capacity; agency background required
• Proven experience managing a remote design team
• Strong portfolio showing both personal, hands-on design work and team-led campaigns
• Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign); working knowledge of Figma and basic motion/video tools is a plus
• Practical experience using AI design tools (e.g. Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, or similar) in a production workflow, not just casual use
SKILLS
• Strong creative direction skills, able to critique and elevate others' work, not just produce their own
• Still sharp and fast on the tools personally, able to execute key visuals under deadline
• AI-fluent, with judgment on where AI genuinely speeds up creative production and where it doesn't, and the ability to teach that to the team
• Comfortable managing people asynchronously across time zones, with clear written communication
• Client-facing confidence; able to present and defend creative decisions
• Organized under pressure; able to run multiple accounts and deadlines without dropping quality
• Problem-solver who can unblock a team, not just their own project
