Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Automation Engineer who is equally comfortable writing clean, production-grade Python as they are designing and troubleshooting complex routing environments. This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer who has built scalable automation platforms for large-scale infrastructure and understands modern data center networking from both a software and networking perspective.

You'll work alongside Network Engineering, Platform Engineering, and Security teams to automate provisioning, simplify operations, and build self-service networking capabilities that support global infrastructure. This is a hands-on technical role with significant ownership, from architecture through production deployment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain network automation frameworks for provisioning and lifecycle management across global infrastructure.
  • Build scalable automation solutions using Python and Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
  • Develop tooling with Python, Ansible, Terraform, and Jinja2.
  • Design and build APIs that expose networking capabilities through self-service platforms.
  • Integrate network automation into CI/CD pipelines for repeatable, testable deployments.
  • Implement monitoring, telemetry, and observability solutions to improve network health and reliability.
  • Partner with Network, Platform, and Security Engineering teams on scalable infrastructure initiatives.
  • Lead technical design discussions and influence long-term automation architecture.
  • Own projects from design through implementation and production support.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, incident response, and root cause analysis.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong background spanning both software engineering and network engineering.
  • Expert-level Python programming skills with solid software engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience with:
  • REST APIs
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Git and code reviews
  • Automated testing
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • Ansible
  • Terraform
  • Jinja2
  • Strong understanding of:

  • Network Security
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with:
  • Service discovery
  • Secrets management
  • Policy-as-Code frameworks
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, observability, resiliency, and microservices.
  • Ability to work independently, navigate ambiguity, and drive projects to completion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with relational, NoSQL, or graph databases.
  • Knowledge of Kafka, RabbitMQ, or other event-driven architectures.
  • Experience supporting large-scale data center environments.
  • Familiarity with Cisco, Arista, and Juniper networking platforms.
  • Strong routing and switching expertise including:
  • BGP
  • OSPF
  • VRFs
  • VLANs
  • ACLs
  • Firewalls
  • Segment Routing
  • Multi-tenant network architectures
  • Experience applying AI/ML to infrastructure automation, predictive analytics, anomaly detection, or automated remediation.
  • Contributions to open-source networking or automation projects.

Ideal Candidate

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving infrastructure problems through software, understands networking at a protocol level, and has built automation platforms that make large-scale environments easier to operate. This person thrives in collaborative engineering teams, takes ownership of complex technical challenges, and is passionate about building reliable, scalable infrastructure.
