To expand its Board of Directors, SkillOunce is seeking individuals with strong multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary capabilities, combining practical knowledge through the use of art with science and deep expertise in product and service design and implementation. Candidates should be capable of translating this expertise across diverse sectors and leveraging a good understanding of law, ethics, economics, and finance to develop practical, effective solutions, while avoiding development models that contribute to climate change.
Qualifications in design engineering that can be translated across a range of disciplines, while considering the specificities of each domain, together with strong interpersonal skills, are essential. Candidates with backgrounds in economics, finance, human resources, or intellectual property should also demonstrate the ability to translate and integrate design engineering methods understanding across disciplines. It is important to have a thorough understanding of the distinction between practical value grounded in skills with ethics and monetary representation, as well as the role of raw materials as resources whose value is enhanced through human talent, competence, innovation, and expertise.
Service as a board member is performed on a pro bono basis; however, it is a highly valuable way to contribute to societal development while strengthening one’s skills and professional and social relationships. Personal commitment with a minimum of three hours per week, is important to perform tasks, besides the board meetings.
As a nonprofit organization in its early stages of development, operating with limited resources in a context of significant global funding challenges, it is much better that individuals willing to serve on the Board of Directors also be willing, according to their financial capacity, to freely contribute to the organization's operations and activities, after being selected. Such contributions would help strengthen the organization's sustainability while maintaining openness to external sources of funding and donations. Full-time staff positions may be created, subject to sufficient secured funding. The organization may also operate through a combination of pro bono and fee-based services, while continuing to uphold its nonprofit status and mission.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in Board of Directors meetings, which will be held at least four times per year, given the early stages of the organization.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the organization's strategic plan.
- Contribute to the development of internal and external policies in alignment with the organization's vision, mission, and objectives.
- Identify emerging trends, best practices, innovative ideas, and effective strategies.
- Monitor trends and benchmarks to support continuous improvement.
- Contribute to the development of internal regulations and governance frameworks.
- Represent the organization when delegated to do so.
- Fulfil other responsibilities assigned by the Board of Directors.
- Carry out specific tasks aligned with one's skills, expertise, and interests through committees established for this purpose.
- The skills to be implemented within potential different committees relate to research, policy development, advocacy, partnership, programme and projects, AI and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and the organization of conferences and workshops.
Profile:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in design engineering or a related field, combined with a strong understanding of economics, finance, and skills, extensive professional experience, and demonstrated expertise, together with a clear recognition of talent, skills, and know-how as the fundamental drivers of value creation, while currency and raw materials are their tools.
- Possess a creative, innovative, deep, and holistic understanding of processes ranging from ideation and design to product and service development, mass production, distribution and user experience.
- Demonstrate the ability to transform curricula into practical, real-world skills, with strong communication, knowledge-sharing, and capacity-building abilities, making complex concepts simple and accessible to others.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to a variety of audiences.
- Excellent presentation skills and the ability to engage effectively with people at all levels and across diverse areas of expertise.
- Strong strategic and analytical thinking skills, with the ability to identify future opportunities and solve complex problems.
- Proficiency in key computer applications, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), Google Docs, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom.
- Ability to work autonomously, collaboratively, and flexibly within a team to achieve objectives, demonstrating creativity and innovation, while maintaining objectivity, efficiency, and compliance with established principles, norms, and standards.
