Purpose of the Position
To manage and supervise the operations of Ro-Ro and PCTC vessels—particularly at the ports of Barcelona, Marseille, and Genoa—in a safe, efficient, and commercially optimized manner, while ensuring seamless coordination among the vessel, terminals, and all operational stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate loading and discharge operations of assigned vessels with the head office, and monitor their execution in accordance with the approved plan.
- Ensure effective coordination with ports, terminals, agents, and stevedoring companies
- Maintain close communication with vessel masters and crew to ensure operational efficiency
- Actively supervise loading and discharge operations on-site, monitor stevedore performance, ensure compliance with approved stowage plans, and observe trim and stability throughout the operation
- Review loading plans in coordination with the Master; verify GM, draft suitability, and ensure stress limits are continuously maintained
- Oversee proper implementation of cargo securing (lashing) and safety procedures
- Identify and minimize operational delays, and develop performance improvement actions
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and international regulations (ISM, ISPS, etc.) during vessel attendance
- Manage operational incidents, provide initial response, and ensure proper reporting
Qualifications
- Valid Oceangoing Chief Officer (Chief Mate) Certificate of Competency
- Proven sea-going experience as Chief Officer on Ro-Ro or PCTC vessels
- Strong knowledge of port operations, cargo handling, and vessel stowage
- Advanced level of English (written and spoken)
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (especially Excel) and operational systems
- Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-intensity operational environment
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently and work actively on-site
- Experience in European port operations (preferably Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa)
