Role Description This is a full-time, on-site School Nurse role located in Houston, TX. The School Nurse provides direct health care to students, including assessing health needs, administering medications, performing first aid, and managing chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes. The role includes maintaining health records, monitoring immunization compliance, and implementing individualized health plans in collaboration with families, educators, and healthcare providers. The School Nurse promotes health education and disease prevention, supports a safe school environment, and participates in crisis and emergency response procedures. Daily responsibilities also include communicating with caregivers, coordinating referrals to community health resources, and contributing to school-wide wellness initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in School Nursing and School Health, including managing student health services in an educational setting.
  • Strong foundation in Nursing and Medicine, with the ability to perform assessments, triage, and basic clinical interventions.
  • Experience or training in Pediatrics, with skills in caring for children and adolescents with diverse health needs.
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas; School Nurse or related certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of public health principles, immunization requirements, and relevant state and federal regulations.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with students, families, and staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, respond calmly in emergencies, and maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Experience in school or community health settings is beneficial; bilingual skills are a plus.
