The Opportunity

Are you a geoscientist who can code? Or a data scientist with deep geoscience expertise? This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of geoscience, machine learning, and real-world mining challenges.

Due to growth, we are looking for 3 Geo-Data Scientist’s to join a specialist consulting team delivering advanced data science and AI solutions to leading mining companies globally. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong geoscience domain expertise with practical machine learning capability. Ideally based in Perth or Melbourne but can work completely remote anywhere in Australia or New Zealand.

What Makes This Role Unique

This is not a pure data science or pure geoscience role – it’s a hybrid.

We are seeking:

• A geoscientist who can apply data science and machine learning
• Someone who understands the complexity and constraints of real geoscience data
• A professional capable of both technical delivery and client communication

You’ll work in a collaborative, often remote team environment, contributing to global projects and learning from experienced Geo-Data Scientists.

Key Responsibilities

You will contribute to the design, development, and delivery of geoscientific data science solutions for global mining clients, working on real datasets across the mining value chain. This is a hands-on consulting role where you will:

• Work on data science and machine learning projects applied to geoscience problems
• Prepare and integrate datasets (geochemistry, drill-core imagery, hyperspectral, geophysics, remote sensing) and build models
• Contribute to client deliverables, reports, and presentations
• Collaborate with internal product and consulting teams to deploy solutions
• Support experimentation, innovation, and continuous improvement in applied AI
• You will also gain exposure to client-facing consulting, helping communicate technical insights clearly to stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

You will bring a rare blend of technical and domain expertise, including:

• Strong background in geoscience (geology, geophysics, geochemistry, geometallurgy, mining or similar)
• Experience applying data science / machine learning to geoscience or mining problems
• Programming capability in Python (preferred) or R
• Familiarity with machine learning frameworks (e.g. scikit-learn, PyTorch)
• Familiarity with agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, etc.)
• Understanding of geoscience datasets and workflows
• Be able to communicate complex ideas in a clear and practical way

And Either:

• PhD or Masters in Geoscience or related discipline, OR
• 3–5 years’ industry experience in geoscience with exposure to data/analytics
