A growing advanced manufacturing company is seeking a Mechanical or Process Engineer with strong experience in precision CNC machining environments. This role will focus on developing, optimizing, and improving machining processes for highly engineered, tight-tolerance components used in a regulated manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in CNC machining process improvement, GD&T, tooling/fixturing, and active experience creating, updating, or modifying engineering drawings using CAD software. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize CNC machining processes including milling, turning, and grinding operations
- Improve cycle times, reduce scrap, and increase overall machine utilization
- Create, update, and maintain engineering drawings, process documentation, routing instructions, and standard work procedures
- Review drawings for manufacturability, tolerance requirements, GD&T, and machining feasibility
- Select tooling, fixtures, and machining parameters for tight-tolerance components
- Support new product introduction from prototype through full production
- Perform root cause analysis related to dimensional, surface finish, or quality issues
- Conduct capability studies and support SPC initiatives
- Collaborate with production, programming, quality, and engineering teams to drive continuous improvement
- Assist with equipment implementation, validation, and manufacturing process improvements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in precision CNC machining environments
- Active hands-on experience creating, updating, or modifying engineering drawings using CAD software
- Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerances, and blueprint interpretation
- Experience working with tight-tolerance machining applications
- Knowledge of machining materials such as titanium, stainless steel, aluminum alloys, or other specialty metals
- Familiarity with SPC methodologies and quality systems
- Ability to work cross-functionally with manufacturing, programming, quality, and engineering teams
Preferred Experience
- Aerospace, medical device, defense, or other highly regulated manufacturing backgrounds
- CAD/CAM software experience such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, Creo, Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar platforms
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma exposure
- Experience supporting process validation and first article inspections
- Experience with tooling design, fixture design, or manufacturability improvements
