Role: Reservoir Simulation Engineer - Contract
Location: Houston, TX or Other Location
Status: Contract 1 yr+ (extension or possible conversion)
Project: Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)
Role Type: Flexible (Hybrid/Remote)
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Reservoir Simulation Contractor to support a portfolio of carbon capture and storage (CCS) / carbon storage programs. This role will focus on building, calibrating, and applying reservoir simulation models to evaluate CO2 storage performance, optimize injection strategies, and ensure safe and compliant long-term storage.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in multiphase flow simulation and subsurface modeling, as well as practical experience in CO2 storage, EOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery), or gas injection projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain, and run dynamic reservoir simulation models for CO2 storage reservoirs.
- Perform simulations to evaluate:
- CO2 injectivity and plume migration.
- Pressure evolution and management strategies.
- Storage capacity and efficiency.
- Containment and trapping mechanisms.
- Integrate geologic, petrophysical, and fluid data into simulation models.
- Conduct history matching and uncertainty analysis where applicable.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (geoscience, petrophysics, drilling, facilities, and regulatory).
- Provide technical input to MMV (Monitoring, Measurement, and Verification) planning.
- Generate clear technical reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline. 5+ years of reservoir simulation experience.
- 5 to 10+ years of reservoir simulation experience.
- Proven experience with industry-standard simulators (ECLIPSE/INTERSECT preferred).
- Strong understanding of multiphase flow in porous media, CO2 phase behavior, thermodynamics, and reservoir engineering fundamentals.
- Experience integrating geological models into simulation workflows.
- Experience coupling wellbore hydraulics with reservoir simulation.
- Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Excel).
