With unusually strong commercial traction across some of the world's biggest airports, ports and government organisations we have innovation partners to develop our technology to scale and we're looking for a Junior Backend Engineer to support Waving's tech development. About the role we're looking for

We're looking for a Junior Backend Engineer in Amsterdam to support Waving’s backend development. In this role, you will manage data set collection, oversee ground truth labeling, and execute training pipelines. You will build data ingestion flows, write maintainable code, and collaborate with embedded and data teams to ship end-to-end features. You will have the chance to grow and learn by working with top-tier engineers. This role requires 2 days on-site; if working a full week, one day working from home is possible. Candidates should be in their 3rd year or higher of a BSc. in Computer Science, Physics, or Electrical Engineering.

Who we're looking for

  • Recently graduated from Computer Science, Physics, or Electrical Engineering or currently enrolled as a 3rd year or higher undergraduate student in those fields
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of C/C++ or Python.
  • Basic knowledge working with linux file system
  • Eager to learn and work on backend systems, data processing, and AI/ML models.
  • Ability to commit to at least 2 days a week on-site; if working a full week, one day may be potentially remote.
  • Nice to haves: experience working with low-spec hardware, familiarity with embedded systems or edge computing or with communication protocols such as SPI, I²C, and Wi-Fi standards
  • Experience in the security or technology sector is a valuable asset
  • Fluency in English

What your days could look like

  • Manage data set collection and recording for model training.
  • Oversee ground truth labeling to ensure high-quality training datasets.
  • Execute training pipelines and generate performance reports.
  • Build data ingestion and processing flows from edge devices to user interface, cloud and integrations
  • Write maintainable code, tests, and documentation, improve CI/CD and deployment processes
