Job Title: Senior Site Manager
Location: Maun, Botswana
Contract Type: Fixed-Term Contract (12 - 18 Months)
A leading renewable energy company is seeking an experienced Senior Site Manager to lead the delivery of a landmark 500MW utility-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage (BESS) project in Botswana. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall management, coordination, and execution of on-site construction activities, ensuring the project is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
This role will provide leadership across civil, mechanical, electrical, and commissioning activities while managing EPC contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and site personnel throughout the project lifecycle.
This opportunity is ideal for a seasoned construction professional with extensive experience delivering large-scale power, renewable energy, mining, infrastructure, or industrial projects and a proven track record managing multidisciplinary construction teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Construction Leadership & Site Management
- Lead all site construction activities from mobilisation through commissioning and handover
- Coordinate contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and project teams
- Ensure construction works are executed in accordance with approved designs, specifications, schedules, and quality requirements
- Drive construction performance and productivity to achieve project milestones
- Resolve site-related challenges and ensure effective communication across all project stakeholders
Contractor & Subcontractor Management
- Oversee EPC contractors and subcontractors to ensure contractual compliance and successful project delivery
- Monitor contractor performance against scope, schedule, quality, and HSE requirements
- Conduct progress reviews and contractor coordination meetings
- Manage construction interfaces between multiple contractors and work packages
- Support the resolution of construction-related claims and commercial issues
Project Planning & Progress Monitoring
- Monitor construction progress against approved schedules and key milestones
- Identify critical path activities and implement recovery plans where required
- Coordinate with planning and project controls teams to ensure accurate reporting and forecasting
- Support commissioning planning and construction readiness activities
Quality Assurance & Quality Control
- Ensure all construction works comply with project quality standards and technical specifications
- Support QA/QC programmes, inspections, testing, and commissioning activities
- Manage the timely resolution of quality issues and non-conformances
- Maintain construction documentation and quality records
Health, Safety & Environmental Management
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across the project site
- Ensure compliance with project HSE policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Participate in site inspections, audits, and Visible Felt Leadership (VFL) activities
- Support incident investigations and implementation of corrective actions
Stakeholder Management & Project Handover
- Coordinate site activities with engineering, procurement, quality, HSE, and project controls teams
- Liaise with consultants, regulatory authorities, and external stakeholders
- Support commissioning, punch-list management, project close-out, and handover activities
- Ensure operational readiness and a smooth transition to operations teams
Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline
- Minimum 12–15 years of construction experience within renewable energy, power generation, mining, infrastructure, or large industrial projects
- Proven experience managing large-scale construction sites and multidisciplinary contractor teams
- Demonstrated experience delivering utility-scale Solar PV, power generation, transmission, mining, or major infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of EPC project execution, construction management, and contractor oversight
- Experience managing construction schedules, site logistics, commissioning, and project handover activities
- Strong knowledge of quality management systems, HSE requirements, and risk management practices
- Experience working under FIDIC or similar contract frameworks
- Previous experience within Botswana or the Southern African region would be advantageous
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving skills
