Description

Designer-Engineer / Maker (Prototyping & Product Development)

About the role

We are seeking a versatile and technically minded designer-engineer to join our prototyping workshop in Den Bosch. In this role, you will be responsible for the full development cycle of themed, interactive products—from 3D design and electronics integration to physical assembly and finishing.

Our work sits at the intersection of robotics, mechanics, embedded systems, and interactive design. Projects are project-based, often with an international scope (including the Middle East), and require a pragmatic, hands-on approach.

What you will do

  • Create 3D models and technical drawings in Fusion 360.
  • Produce physical prototypes using CNC machinery, 3D printers, and hand tools.
  • Integrate electronics and microcontrollers into mechanical assemblies.
  • Program and test embedded systems (and occasionally develop supporting user interfaces or control software).
  • Build, refine, and deliver fully assembled final products.
  • Switch between disciplines as project needs evolve—from mechanical fixes to software debugging to iterative design adjustments.

What we are looking for

You do not need to be a senior expert in every domain. We are open to candidates with a solid foundational skill set and the willingness to learn across fields. However, you should be able to demonstrate practical experience—whether through previous employment, internships, academic projects, or personal builds—in the following areas:

  • 3D design using Fusion 360 (other parametric CAD experience is acceptable, provided you can transition quickly).
  • Working with microcontrollers (e.g., Arduino, ESP, or similar platforms) and basic electronics (soldering, wiring, reading schematics).
  • Some exposure to coding—this could be embedded C/C++, Python, or higher-level languages for control dashboards or data logging (a working understanding of full-stack concepts is a plus, not a prerequisite).
  • Mechanical assembly and the use of workshop tools (both manual and digital fabrication).

Personal qualities

  • Analytical and precise, with attention to detail.
  • Capable of working independently and taking ownership of tasks.
  • Flexible and pragmatic—able to move between disciplines without losing efficiency.
  • Open to learning and picking up new skills on the job.

Practical details

  • Location: Den Bosch (onsite required—this is a workshop-based role; remote work is not possible).
  • Work type: Full-time preferred. Part-time and freelance engagements are also possible.
  • Travel: Occasional international travel to the Middle East may be required.
  • Start date: We are looking for someone who can start on short notice.

Who should apply

We welcome applicants with 0–5 years of relevant experience. If you are a recent graduate or career-switcher with a strong portfolio of hands-on projects (even if self-initiated), we encourage you to apply. We value demonstrated curiosity and a track record of building things over formal years of experience. You will receive guidance where needed, but we expect you to be resourceful and proactive.

How to apply

  • Please send your CV and a brief portfolio or project overview (links accepted) that highlights your most relevant hands-on work.
