About JANA

We are here for one reason: People. Together with our clients, we can change the lives of millions of Australians for the better.

JANA is a leading investment consulting firm with offices in Melbourne & Sydney. We provide investment advisory consulting to over 85 institutional clients, including superannuation funds, charities, insurers, foundations, and endowment funds. Our services include asset allocation, manager research and selection, and investment strategy advice. We foster close relationships with each client to understand their needs and identify unique investment opportunities for their benefit.

Your new role

This is an exciting opportunity to join JANA’s Software and Data Engineering team as a Data Solutions Engineer, reporting to the Head of Software and Data Engineering. You will partner with research, portfolio, and client-facing teams to turn investment data into the dashboards, models, and self-serve tools that power better decision-making. Working across the gold layer of our Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse, you will design semantic models, build Power BI experiences, and replace legacy Excel workflows with trusted, reusable Lakehouse solutions.

Some Of Your Key Responsibilities Will Include

  • Serving as a fund management data domain authority for investment and client data, and custodian of the Common Data Language
  • Partnering directly with Research, Quant, Portfolio Management, and Client Consulting teams to design data solutions that fit how they actually work
  • Designing dimensional, analytical, and semantic models that translate complex investment domains into reusable gold-layer datasets
  • Building and maintaining Microsoft Fabric event-driven data pipelines using advanced SQL and Python programming skills
  • Defining and implementing data quality rules, reconciliation checks, and governance frameworks to ensure gold-layer datasets are accurate, reproducible, and suitable for client-facing use
  • Running working sessions, demos, and feedback loops with stakeholders to drive adoption and eliminate wasteful legacy applications

About you

You are a hands-on, accountable individual who genuinely enjoys working with people and gets energy from understanding what stakeholders are trying to achieve - not just from the technical craft. You’re comfortable owning complex data domains end-to-end and are equally credible in a working session with a Portfolio Manager as you are in a design review with engineers.

To Be Successful In This Role You Will Bring

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in data science, AI, modelling, or equivalent
  • Deep experience (7+ years) in funds management, asset management, or wealth management
  • Strong understanding of investment principles including performance, benchmarks, asset allocation, and exposure analysis
  • Advanced SQL and proven ability to design gold-layer models that downstream teams can reuse
  • Deep experience with Power BI — data modelling, DAX, and dashboard design for analytical users
  • Working experience with Microsoft Fabric, Synapse, Databricks, or similar modern data platforms
  • Clear communication skills across technical, operational, and business audiences
