Head of Engineering

Description

Head of Engineering | Consumer Subscription

Salary: £140-160k

London (Hybrid, 3 days in HQ)

I'm partnering with a profitable, high-growth consumer subscription business looking to hire a Head of Engineering to lead the next phase of its technology evolution.

This isn't a role where you'll inherit a large engineering organisation with mature processes already in place. It's an opportunity to shape the engineering function, raise technical standards and build a culture where engineering is a true partner to Product and the wider business.

You'll join a small, highly capable team supporting a platform that serves hundreds of thousands of customers, with the opportunity to influence architecture, engineering practices, AI adoption and future team growth.

As a Head of Engineering you'll be:

  • Leading and mentoring a small engineering team, remaining hands-on where needed
  • Driving improvements across engineering maturity, observability, testing and incident response
  • Owning technical direction, architecture decisions and engineering best practice
  • Working closely with Product and commercial stakeholders to balance customer value with technical investment
  • Hiring and developing engineers as the team grows
  • Exploring how AI can improve engineering productivity and create value across the wider business

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Experience leading engineering teams within a consumer technology, D2C, subscription or e-commerce environment.
  • Remained technically credible and enjoys staying close to architecture, delivery and technical decision-making (Full-stack TS + AWS/Serverless).
  • Successfully improved engineering maturity, reliability and operational excellence in a growing business.
  • Experience with observability, incident management and modern software engineering practices.
  • A pragmatic approach to balancing technical excellence with commercial priorities.
  • AWS experience and a strong understanding of modern cloud-native architectures.
  • An interest in AI and experience adopting AI tools or workflows within engineering.

Why join?

This is a genuine opportunity to have a lasting impact on a well-established consumer business with ambitious growth plans. You'll have the autonomy to shape the engineering function, influence technology strategy and work alongside an experienced leadership team that sees technology as a key driver of future growth.

If you're interested in hearing more, or know someone who could be a great fit, I'd be happy to arrange a confidential conversation.
