About the role
You'll lead and establish a high-performing Quality Engineering capability at icare, owning the strategy, standards and tooling and building the team to deliver it.
It's a genuine transformation - taking quality from manual testing to a continuous, engineering-led model where it's designed into every stage of delivery.
The role is hands-on as much as strategic - you'll move between enterprise testing strategy and the automation detail and build the team and culture that carries it forward.
What you'll do - the engineering
- Define and drive the Quality Engineering strategy, standards and governance across icare
- Lead the shift from manual testing to a modern, automation-led, AI-enabled model
- Embed testing into CI/CD pipelines and champion shift-left, continuous testing across delivery squads
- Own the test tooling strategy and drive automation that lifts coverage, cuts cycle time and speeds time-to-market
- Define and govern the quality metrics that make outcomes measurable, transparent and tied to business value
What you'll do - the leadership
- Build and lead a high-performing team of quality engineers, SDETs and test specialists
- Develop capability uplift across test automation, non-functional testing (performance, security, resilience) and modern tooling
- Foster a quality engineering culture built on ownership, innovation and continuous improvement
- Partner across Engineering, Platforms, Architecture and Delivery so quality aligns with the broader engineering strategy
- Represent Quality Engineering in change and release governance and keep quality controls embedded in how icare ships
What you'll bring
- Significant experience leading quality engineering or testing functions in complex environments, including the build of enterprise-wide test strategies and standards
- Strong expertise across test automation, non-functional testing and CI/CD integration, with hands-on knowledge of modern frameworks and tooling
- A track record building and managing high-performing QA/QE teams, including SDETs
- The leadership to drive cultural change, and the stakeholder skills to influence across Engineering, Delivery and the business
- Knowledge of cloud platforms and modern engineering ecosystems, and comfort working Agile
- A tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, IT or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
Nice to have: certifications in testing (e.g. ISTQB Advanced), Agile or DevOps; cloud certifications (Azure, AWS); experience with AI-enabled testing tools; performance, security or resilience engineering; experience standing up QE guilds or communities of practice; and a background in regulated industries (insurance, financial services, government).
