Mentor Juvenil, Alpha - $100,000/year USD

Guaynabo

Description

  • On-site position at Alpha School's campus in Dorado, Puerto Rico
  • $100,000 annually ($50/hour, 40 hours/week), with weekly pay
  • Formal teaching certification not required; Spanish fluency is beneficial

The most meaningful support you can offer a student who achieves 99% of their target is to insist they reach 100%. If that principle makes you uneasy, this position is not the right fit. If it energizes you because maintaining high standards demonstrates your belief in a child's capacity to meet them, continue reading.

Alpha School operates on a 2 Hour Learning framework: students in grades K-8 complete a full day's worth of academics in approximately two hours using adaptive learning applications. No lectures. No textbooks. Your responsibility is what the software cannot provide — guiding children through essential life skills including public speaking, concentration, collaboration, and the ability to give and receive constructive feedback.

Approximately 60% of your time will focus on individual motivation: reviewing learning app dashboards and Coachbot analytics, identifying where a third-grader is struggling with fractions or a fifth-grader is resisting reading assignments, and helping them overcome these obstacles. The remaining 40% involves facilitating interactive, hour-long workshops that resemble improv practice sessions more than traditional classroom instruction. Every student must demonstrate mastery via Test2Pass assessments before progression.

This position offers clear advancement. You'll manage a small cohort and become proficient in Alpha's methodology during your first year. Demonstrate that you can guide every student to 100% goal attainment while maintaining strong satisfaction metrics, and opportunities open for Lead Guide, then Campus Lead (where you oversee an entire school). You'll witness a child who avoided eye contact in September confidently present to a room full of parents by spring.

Apply if you believe that seating 30 children in rows to listen to one adult underutilizes what children are capable of achieving.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Guiding K-8 students individually and in small groups through adaptive learning applications, leveraging Coachbot analytics and dashboards to identify learning obstacles
  • Implementing Alpha's motivation system (leaderboards, incentive structures, weekly goal-setting sessions) to ensure every student progresses at the expected rate
  • Facilitating hour-long, experiential life-skills workshops focused on public speaking, concentration, teamwork, and constructive feedback (project-driven and interactive, never lecture-based)
  • Conducting Test2Pass mastery assessments and maintaining standards: students advance only after demonstrating genuine understanding
  • Establishing trust with students so that rigorous accountability feels encouraging rather than punitive

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Delivering lectures or traditional academic instruction (students master core subjects through adaptive apps, not direct teaching from you)
  • Creating lesson plans from the ground up — Alpha supplies the curriculum and implementation guides; you execute them with enthusiasm and narrative skill
  • Evaluating homework assignments or preparing students for standardized testing; these elements do not exist in this model
  • Handling parent communications or school administrative duties — Campus Leads manage those areas, allowing you to concentrate on your cohort
  • Passively monitoring children on devices; if you're not actively engaged in coaching, you're not fulfilling the role
