Reporting to the National Logistics Manager, you will be responsible for leading a large-scale transport operation, ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of goods across a national distribution network. You will oversee fleet operations, driver management, route planning, and operational performance, while ensuring service levels and compliance standards are consistently achieved.

This is a hands-on leadership role suited to an experienced transport or logistics professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a strong track record of managing people, fleet operations, and operational performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, rostering, and deployment of staff to scheduled routes, maintaining sufficient flexibility to meet changing operational and customer requirements.
  • Schedule additional runs as required and implement a structured approach to vehicle deployment, with a strong focus on control and optimisation.
  • Ensure high standards of service delivery through the consistent application of recognised operational and quality standards.
  • Maintain full knowledge of transport legislation and ensure all drivers and logistics staff are rostered in compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Proactively manage and resolve operational issues as they arise, applying lessons learned to future planning and contingency arrangements.
  • Develop and maintain capacity plans and contingency arrangements for peak periods.
  • Manage effective customer interactions and oversee customer collections, including the allocation of new collections.
  • Lead the Dublin Middle Mile Operations logistics team, promoting safe, efficient, and effective working practices at all times.
  • Ensure all mandatory training requirements are met and kept up to date, including CPC, manual handling, and power pallet/double stack training.
  • Engage with local union representatives, as required, to address operational or employee‑related matters.
  • Monitor, control, and manage pay and non‑pay budgets in line with agreed targets.
  • Liaise with HR on the recruitment and onboarding of HGV drivers, including the sourcing and onboarding of third‑party hauliers and agency drivers when required.
  • Demonstrate An Post values and behaviours in your day to day work and address behaviour that supports/ conflicts with them.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have significant experience managing transport or logistics operations within a fast-paced environment. You will possess strong leadership skills, excellent operational planning capabilities, and a proven ability to deliver results through people.

You will also have:

  • Experience managing transport fleets, drivers, and logistics operations.
  • Strong knowledge of transport regulations, compliance requirements, and health and safety standards.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • The ability to make effective decisions in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Experience managing budgets, operational performance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • A proactive and resilient approach, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • A full, clean driving licence.

Salary

Salary range starting from €65,476 – 80% of median

Placement within the advertised salary range will be determined based on the successful candidate’s skills, experience, qualifications and alignment with the role requirements.
