About the Role:

This is a unique permanent opportunity to sit at the intersection of law, technology and human-centred design. As a Legal Engineer at Maurice Blackburn, you won't just observe how legal services evolve, you'll be the one building what comes next.

Working within our innovation team, you'll design and deliver the systems and workflows that help our lawyers do more for more people in need, as well as design and ship solutions that directly enhance the way client’s access and experience legal services.

What you will do:

  • Analyse legal workflows and client journeys to identify opportunities for simplification, automation and scale.
  • Translate legislation, advice frameworks and legal playbooks into structured decision logic and automated pathways.
  • Build and maintain document automation, intake systems, decision tools and workflow platforms.
  • Configure legal technology such as CLM, document automation, eSignature and online legal products.
  • Identify and implement AI use cases with appropriate governance, guardrails and quality controls.
  • Partner with lawyers, technologists and operations teams to ensure solutions reflect real-world legal practice.
  • Drive adoption and capability uplift across legal teams, delivering solutions that get used.
  • Monitor performance and iterate based on feedback and outcomes.

What we’re looking for:

You might come from law, legal operations, technology, process design or business analysis , what matters most is how you think and what you can build.

  • Experience in a law firm, in-house legal team, legal operations or legal technology environment.
  • Strong grasp of legal processes and the real challenges faced by clients navigating the legal system.
  • Hands-on experience with legal technology, workflow automation or scalable service delivery.
  • High digital literacy, including meaningful exposure to AI tools and their practical application.
  • The ability to act as a translator, bridging legal, technical and commercial perspectives.
  • A practical, delivery-focused mindset: you care about what gets built, adopted and sustained.
