Engineering Manager (Product Experience)

Hireup

Australia

Description

We’re Hireup, delivering disability and aged care support as it should be.

Our story. It started with a family and their challenge to find disability support that worked for them. They needed more, and knew that people with disability could have more independence, choice and control in their lives. The Hireup purpose was born, and now we strive to enable the pursuit of a good life for everyone.

Support as it should be. We’re Hireup and we’ve supported thousands of clients and support workers across Australia. Now, we’re on a mission to ensure that people living with disability and elderly Australians can access the right support for the moments that matter for them. We do this through combining digital tools with the reliability of someone to help when it matters most.

The ask? Our mission sets a new standard for disability and aged care support, working in a world of transformation whilst delivering reliable services every day. Authenticity, curiosity and tenacity is a must. Resilience will be key. We will live the ‘power of yes’ and push for the best (we might not always get it right!) but we’ll work together to tackle opportunities, hold each other up and be there in the moments that matter to you and our community.

What You’ll Do - Engineering Manager (Permanent, Full-Time)

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead, inspire, and support a high-performing team of full-stack engineers. In this role, you aren't just managing tasks, you are building a culture.

You will bridge the gap between high-level business strategy and technical execution, working closely with Product Directors, business stakeholders, and senior engineering leaders to plan, resource, and execute across multiple squads.

While you will partner with senior technical staff to oversee domain health, your primary focus will be to foster a supportive, high-performing team culture, facilitate effective ways of working, and champion individual wellbeing and career development.

People Leadership & Culture

  • Grow & Mentor: Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers through impactful 1:1s, clear career pathways, and continuous growth conversations.
  • Uplift Capability: Actively identify opportunities for engineering capability growth, guiding and leveling up the technical competency within your team.
  • Champion Wellbeing: Cultivate a psychologically safe, cohesive team environment. Actively support individual and team wellbeing.

Delivery & Strategy

  • Translate Strategy: Turn high-level company and product visions into meaningful, actionable goals for your squads.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product Managers and stakeholders to ensure workstreams are seamlessly planned, resourced, and delivered.
  • Optimize Workflow: Manage multiple workstreams effectively by delegating leadership roles within your team.

Technical Excellence & Innovation

  • Tech Evolution: Encourage an environment of continuous learning and curiosity, guiding the team to explore modern tools and workflows to improve their developer experience.
  • Maintain Standards: Oversee technical architecture, code health, and long-term product stability across your team’s domains.
  • Facilitate Architecture: Support senior engineering staff to ensure projects are well-planned and executed, overseeing the high-level technical direction without needing to be the hands-on coder.

Your Background

  • Proven Leadership: A strong background in software engineering (+ years) with a track record of leading, mentoring, and growing technical teams (4+ years).
  • People-First Mindset: Highly comfortable setting clear expectations, delivering actionable feedback, and driving progress while keeping team empathy at the center of your management style.
  • Agile Expertise: Deeply conversant with agile management practices and software development methodologies—knowing exactly which patterns to adapt based on the outcome required.
  • The Bridge: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders, effectively balancing engineering effort with business value.
  • Tech-Forward & Curious: An active interest in how emerging technologies and AI tools can be leveraged to optimise workflows and build better experiences for our community.

Why Should You Join?

You’ll have the opportunity to join our story and develop the next chapter of your own. You’ll become a critical part of a purpose-driven team, delivering our mission for people with a disability and elderly Australians. Wherever you fit best within our organisation, our mission will ignite you, and our authentic, united and diverse workplace will help you flourish.

You Will Get:
