Job Summary:

This position will support the environmental, safety and health programs and policies relating to applicable local, state and federal regulations that may multiply sites. Primary responsibilities of this position include collecting data for regulatory compliance, as well as planning, developing, implementing, and administering safety, environmental, and health programs. Interfacing associates and management regarding EHS initiatives is imperative in this position to reduce accidents and improve environmental, health, and safety within the organization.

Main Responsibilities

Develop and Execute Strategies and Initiatives

  • Drive and assist the execution of multi-year strategic plans targeting important and value added EHS initiatives.
  • Communicate and guide actions on emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges in a manufacturing environment, adapting plans accordingly
  • Align EHS strategies with Terumo’s business goals, values, and culture

Integrate and Manage the Environmental, Health and Safety Program

  • Conduct, EHS audits of the facilities to comply with standards and regulations, identify best practices and pinpoint unsafe working conditions or behaviors; coordinate Industrial Hygiene audits and testing to ensure that hazards are identified and mitigated.
  • Drive the integration of standardized and repeatable approaches to physical safety and health and wellness of associates.
  • Partner with Environmental Specialists to assist in the progression of compliance and best practices.
  • Establish metrics for site program effectiveness and drive continuous improvement through data-driven insights.

Engage and Integrate Internal and External Stakeholders and Resources

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, including but not limited to Operations, Engineering, HR, Facilities, and Site Leadership
  • Engage with external partners such as government regulatory agencies and community-based emergency responders.
  • Facilitate cross-functional teams to deliver integrated process improvements regarding progressive safety solutions.
  • Analyze data to identify opportunities for improvement and demonstrate program impact

Foster and Progress Culture and Engagement

  • Monitor and communicate regulatory changes or industry best practices affecting EHS programs
  • Serve as a thought leader and mentor to staff and cross-functional team members
  • Foster a culture of health, wellness, inclusion, and engagement throughout the organization
  • Champion EHS initiatives at the site level, modeling behaviors and practices

Strategic Planning & Reporting

  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for leadership, translating complex data into actionable recommendations
  • Develop and manage site specific budgets for initiatives, ensuring effective allocation of resources
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising on quality or outcomes
  • Ensure all EHS aspects of the site comply with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies

Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop structure for site specific protocols
  • Integrate and continually improve a Corporate EHS Program
  • Generate and share metrics and leading/lagging indicators and communicate proposed action plans
  • Stay up to date on current trends, research, and best practices to continually improve and evolve the program.

Training & Development

  • Promote the importance of EHS continuous improvements through the deployment of credible educational materials, workshops, presentations, and organizational events
  • Provide instruction on various EHS topics, including OSHA, ANSI, ISO and NFPA requirements
  • Lead an EHS site committee to develop workplace awareness, understanding and cultural advancements

Organizational Impact:

The EHS Specialist II is a high-profile position with the opportunity to be an influencer within the site. This position will be incorporated into the larger EHS Management System and Team as part of a corporate function. This role is a strong mix of “boots on the ground” and procedure / policy development and integration.

Communication & Influence:

We are looking for an individual with strong communication skills, ability to build trust and relationships amongst salaried leaders and hourly associates within the site, and build trust and partnership with agencies and industries outside of the organization. This position will establish a strong rapport and steady partnership with the Operations team, Engineering, Facilities Management Team and Human Resources Department.

Innovation & Complexity:

This job allows the opportunity to integrate the EHS program and prioritize organizational action. The position is a technical expert in their field with free thinking opportunity to tackle complex scenarios and set standards in place for repeatability.

Leadership & Autonomy:

The EHS Specialist II will be a site lead and contact for all Environmental, Health and Safety programs and initiatives. The position will create, institute and drive the structure, policies and procedures required to have a well-rounded EHS Management System.

Position Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • A minimum of five years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, EPA, OSHA, NFPA, ANSI and other related compliance requirements.
  • Good communication skills and desire to work as part of a team.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office software and experience with software management applications.
  • Ability to set up and work within an organized, document-controlled environment.

Background Experiences:

  • Requires a four-year college degree in environmental management, safety science, chemical engineering, or related field.
  • First aid/CPR/AED, HAZWOPER, OSHA 10/30 Hour, DOT/RCRA certifications preferred.
