The Role

The Senior Grid Connections Engineer will support the Grid, Approvals and Design team at Potentia Energy in technical matters related to the connection of utility-sized power plants in Australia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the review of power systems studies, including grid connection, system strength impact assessments and research and development.
  • Liaise with technical team and provide insights on undertaking EMT and RMS-based simulations using PSCAD, PSSE and DigSILENT PowerFactory.
  • Develop technical solutions to complex connection issues.
  • Support the design of HV/MV interconnection activities.
  • Follow up and monitor grid connection technical requirements changes.
  • Provide support to the Asset Management Team during the operation of plants (Compliance monitoring).
  • Manage the grid connection technical activities in all project phases – i.e. business development, engineering design, construction, commissioning, and commercial operation.
  • Liaise with business development managers, projects managers, project planners and other key internal stakeholders to develop project schedules and budget.
  • Coordinate grid connection related activities for timely completion within allocated budget.
  • Lead negotiations/interfacing with a wide range of industry organisations, service providers (T/NSPs, AEMO and other relevant authorities) on GPS packages and connection agreements.
  • Participate in the preparation of technical tender documentation (leading grid connection aspects) for the assignment of construction contracts and suppliers.

Selection Criteria

  • Minimum master’s degree qualification, preferably in Electrical or Power System Engineering.
  • High knowledge of power systems stability, system strength requirements and network support agreements.
  • Working experience with wide range of T/NSPs, and AEMO.
  • Track record of successful large-scale renewable project connection in the NEM.
  • Understanding of large-scale renewable project stakeholders’ structure.
  • Exposure to different stages of large-scale renewable project life cycle.
  • Involvement and understanding of NEM Reform Implementation roadmap.
