The Opportunity
At Wollongong City Council, we are committed to building a safe, inclusive, and resilient community. Join our Governance and Risk team and help us deliver on that mission as a proactive and highly capable Operational Risk Advisor. This is not a traditional WHS role.
This is an opportunity to step into a broad, organisation wide risk role where no two days are the same. You will work across a wide range of operational risk areas, supporting teams to build capability and embed risk awareness into everyday decision making. You will play a key role in identifying, assessing, and managing risks across Council operations, working closely with teams at all levels of the organisation to support the implementation of practical risk management approaches that protect our people, assets, and services.
This is a hands on and influential role where you will move beyond performing risk assessments yourself and instead focus on enabling others to understand and manage risk as part of their day to day work. Applicants must be physically capable of undertaking manual tasks relating to the role.
This is a Permanent Full Time 35 hour per week position. Salary from $89,651.68 up to $101,912.04 per annum plus superannuation (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications). A 4% to the salary will apply from 1 July 2026.

You are a confident and capable risk professional who brings both technical knowledge and the ability to influence and educate others.
You will bring:
You will thrive in a collaborative, small team environment and enjoy working across a wide variety of risk topics, adapting your approach depending on the audience and situation. A current Class C Driver Licence is required, and you must be comfortable attending site visits across the Wollongong LGA.
