2. About the Opportunity:
The Commercial Credit Underwriter role is responsible for evaluating and underwriting a range of commercial credit opportunities from community to corporate levels. This position supports lending decisions by analyzing financial and credit information, structuring loans, and collaborating closely with internal teams. The role contributes to managing credit risk and supporting the organization's strategic lending objectives.
3. Responsibilities:
- Underwrite commercial credit opportunities including C&I, CRE, agriculture, private banking, lender finance, and syndicated credits.
- Analyze financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, collateral, guarantor support, and industry trends.
- Prepare underwriting summaries, conduct industry research, identify risks and mitigating factors, and develop credit presentations.
- Collaborate with Relationship Managers and internal partners to assess client needs and structure credit solutions.
- Conduct annual credit reviews, evaluate covenant compliance, recommend risk ratings, and meet service expectations.
- Monitor covenant compliance and escalate exceptions or emerging risks.
- Participate in customer and prospect discussions to support transactions.
- Ensure compliance with credit policies, regulatory guidance, and lending authority standards.
- Stay informed of financial products, markets, regulations, and business trends.
- Support loan committee presentations and assist senior leadership with reporting and risk management.
- Mentor junior underwriters and contribute to process improvements and credit quality standards.
4. Requirements:
- Minimum three years of experience in commercial credit underwriting, financial analysis, and loan structuring in banking or financial services.
- Experience underwriting CRE, C&I, and other commercial borrower relationships across industries.
- Preferred completion of a formal commercial credit training program.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field; advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills for interaction with various stakeholders.
- Ability to independently identify issues, assess risk, and recommend solutions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Salesforce, nCino, or similar platforms preferred.
- Ability to work remotely or in-office, with occasional travel as needed.
