Your day as a Senior Associate

As a Senior Associate, you’ll manage the development, implementation, monitoring, improvement and evaluation of key projects within the Climate Finance Programs (CFP) Branch which are effective, innovative and meeting the government’s priority objectives while demonstrating good value for public expenditure. Your typical day-to-day work will include:

  • Leading the development, maintenance and application of the Climate Vulnerability Assessment (CVA) methodology’s financial models required to analyse the impacts of climate change, including scenario analysis and sensitivity testing, and translating complex outputs into clear, decision-relevant insights for senior stakeholders.
  • Project managing, utulising co-design methods, all elements of any design and development work associated with (but not limited to) continuing to build on the CVA methodology and application in Treasury.
  • Ensuring that all policy and development work is aligned to government policies and priorities, including preparing business cases and project plans, establishing appropriate governance, identifying and allocating resources, and meeting reporting requirements to ensure program design meets the target audiences’ needs and supports efficient and timely delivery of outcomes.

What you can bring to the role

In this integral role there are a few things we would like for you to have to best support yourself and add value to the people of NSW.

The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:

  • Strong financial modelling capability, including experience building, interpreting and quality-assuring quantitative models (e.g. in Excel or similar tools) to support policy, economic or financial analysis more broadly.
  • Solid understanding of financial and economic concepts, including valuation, risk analysis, forecasting and scenario analysis, ideally with the ability to apply these concepts in a public policy or fiscal context.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and ability to interpret data to identify any trends or anomalies.
  • Strong project management skills demonstrating the ability to deliver agreed outcomes on time, on budget, and to quality standards.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders to take action on delivering sustainability outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, project manage complex engagements, communicate clearly and effectively (verbally and in writing).
  • Ability to adapt to and thrive in a continuously changing business and policy environment.
  • Tertiary qualifications in economics, social policy, finance, law or other relevant areas are highly regarded.
