As the Director of Manufacturing Science and Technology, you will lead a high-performing team of scientists and engineers responsible for the technical stewardship of manufacturing processes at a large-scale biologics production site. In this role, you will shape technical strategy, drive operational excellence, and ensure the successful support of both current manufacturing operations and future business growth. You will play a critical leadership role in fostering innovation, maintaining compliance, and building a high-performing technical organization.

This role will be based on-site at a manufacturing site in the Midwest.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic technical leadership across manufacturing processes including biological antigen production, aseptic processing, vaccine formulation, and filling operations.
  • Drive regulatory compliance and manufacturing excellence through the application of GMP standards, process validation, periodic product reviews, and technical oversight.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technical professionals while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety and environmental responsibility through participation in hazard assessments and oversight of laboratory and pilot plant operations.
  • Partner cross-functionally to solve complex technical challenges, leverage data-driven decision making, and implement continuous process improvements that optimize manufacturing performance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Bioprocess), Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related scientific or technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 5–10 years of experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, biologics, or related manufacturing environments with progressive leadership experience in technical services, manufacturing sciences, or process engineering.
  • Deep understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and a proven ability to lead high-performing technical teams through complex manufacturing and process-related challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with vaccine manufacturing, viral or bacterial antigen production, aseptic processing, biologics manufacturing, or lyophilization.
  • Experience leading process validation, technical investigations, technology transfers, and manufacturing support activities in highly regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with Quality, Engineering, Regulatory, and Manufacturing teams to drive business outcomes and technical solutions.
  • Experience working within matrixed organizations and developing strong internal technical networks to support enterprise-wide collaboration.
  • Track record of mentoring and developing technical talent to build future leadership pipelines.
