Fastnet Underwriting

Dublin

Description

Underwriter – Private Motor Insurance

Location: IFSC, Dublin City / Hybrid

Reporting to: Senior Underwriter / Head of Underwriting Operations

Type: Full-time, permanent

About the role

Fastnet Underwriting Limited is an award winning MGA offering private motor insurance in Ireland through our broker and direct network. We design and distribute non-standard products underwritten by AIG. We operate using an advanced digital platform to deliver our product. This includes Risk Handler to facilitate smooth customer on-boarding and broker communication, along with a data enrichment program from LexisNexis. With a strong and experienced team, we pride ourselves on delivering the highest level of service to brokers.

We're looking for an Underwriter to join our private motor insurance team. This is an ideal opportunity for someone currently working in a brokerage who understands the customer and intermediary side of the business and now wants to move into underwriting and learn the discipline from the inside.

You'll work closely with experienced underwriters, applying our underwriting rules and pricing to new business, renewals, and mid-term adjustments. Over time you'll take on greater authority and ownership as your judgement develops. We'll support you with structured training, mentoring, and the qualifications you need to build a long-term career in underwriting.

No prior underwriting experience is required — what matters is a solid grounding in motor insurance, good judgement, and a genuine appetite to learn.

What you'll do

  • Assess and process new business, renewals, and mid-term adjustments within agreed underwriting guidelines and authority limits.
  • Support our underwriting desk and liase with our network of brokers, handle referrals and queries from brokers and intermediaries in a professional and timely way
  • Manage and maintain our direct offerings through various schemes and comparison sites
  • Review risk information, apply rating and underwriting rules, and refer cases that fall outside guidelines to senior colleagues.
  • Ensure policies are underwritten accurately and in line with the delegated authority agreement and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records and support data quality across the book.
  • Contribute to the continuous review of underwriting rules, pricing, and processes, flagging trends or anomalies you spot.
  • Build strong working relationships with brokers, colleagues, and capacity partners.

What you'll bring

  • APA (Accredited Product Adviser) or working towards CIP (Certified Insurance Practitioner), or equivalent.
  • Experience in motor insurance, ideally gained in a broker or intermediary environment and ideally a good working knowledge of the Applied Relay 360 system.
  • A good understanding of motor cover, policy types, and the quote-to-bind process.
  • Strong attention to detail and comfort working with numbers and rules.
  • Sound judgement and the confidence to ask questions and escalate appropriately.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent customer service skills and telephone manner
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office Suites
  • A genuine interest in underwriting as a career path.

What we offer

  • Structured training and mentoring from experienced underwriters.
  • Support towards professional qualifications (APA / CIP), including study time and exam costs.
  • A clear development path from junior to fully-fledged underwriter.
  • Competitive salary, pension, hybrid working, and other benefits
  • A collaborative team where you'll see the whole underwriting cycle, not just one corner of it.
