Position Summary

Momentum Technologies is seeking a hands-on and highly motivated Process Engineer II to support daily operations, process optimization, commissioning, and scale-up activities at our Carrollton Demonstration Plant. This role is critical to improving plant reliability, throughput, safety, and overall operational performance while enabling the successful transition of new technologies from R&D into pilot and demonstration-scale operations.

The ideal candidate has experience in pilot plants, chemical processing, hydrometallurgy, or manufacturing operations, along with strong troubleshooting capability, operational discipline, and a continuous improvement mindset. This position requires a practical, field-oriented engineer who is comfortable working directly with operators, equipment, instrumentation, and rapidly evolving process technologies in a fast-paced startup environment.

Here is what we hope you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in pilot plant, demonstration plant, hydrometallurgical, or chemical manufacturing operations
  • Experience supporting process optimization, troubleshooting, commissioning, startup, or plant modifications
  • Working knowledge of mass balances, process flows, PFDs/P&IDs, and operating data analysis
  • Familiarity with industrial EHS requirements and safe chemical processing practices
  • Experience developing SOPs, operating procedures, technical work instructions, and process documentation
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across operations, engineering, maintenance, and R&D teams
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic startup environment with evolving priorities and aggressive execution timelines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with hydrometallurgy, solvent extraction, filtration, membrane systems, or critical minerals processing
  • Familiarity with PLCs, instrumentation, process controls, and automated data collection systems
  • Experience troubleshooting pumps, piping systems, valves, sensors, and electromechanical equipment
  • Lean Six Sigma, SPC, DOE, RCA, FMEA, or continuous improvement experience preferred
  • Prior experience supporting scale-up from lab or pilot operations into production environments

How you will make an impact:

Plant Operations & Process Support

  • Support daily operation of the demonstration plant to improve safety, uptime, throughput, and process consistency
  • Troubleshoot process and equipment issues involving pumps, reactors, filtration systems, piping, instrumentation, controls, and chemical processes
  • Monitor plant performance and identify opportunities to improve recovery, quality, reliability, and operating efficiency
  • Support commissioning, startup, and optimization of new or modified process systems
  • Assist with process monitoring, sampling, data collection, and operating parameter adjustments

Scale-Up & Continuous Improvement

  • Support scale-up of processes from laboratory and pilot-scale development into demonstration plant operations
  • Execute process trials and evaluate operational performance data to support process development activities
  • Analyze operating data and implement improvements using Lean Six Sigma and structured root-cause problem-solving methodologies
  • Assist in defining process windows, KPIs, control strategies, and operational standards
  • Support implementation of process improvements that improve safety, throughput, quality, and cost performance

Projects & Technical Execution

  • Support plant improvement projects, equipment installations, and process modifications
  • Coordinate with operators, maintenance personnel, contractors, and vendors to execute work safely and efficiently
  • Assist with equipment selection, procurement support, installation, checkout, and commissioning activities
  • Track project action items, operational risks, punch-list items, and follow-through activities
  • Support development of preventive maintenance and reliability improvement initiatives

Documentation, Safety & Compliance

  • Develop and maintain SOPs, operating procedures, commissioning plans, troubleshooting guides, and technical documentation
  • Support ISO-aligned documentation systems, operational records, and process reporting requirements
  • Participate in safety reviews, job hazard analyses, management of change activities, and process risk assessments
  • Ensure activities are performed in compliance with company safety, environmental, and operational standards
  • Promote strong housekeeping, 5S, and operational discipline throughout the facility

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with operators, technicians, engineers, and R&D personnel to support plant execution and process development
  • Provide hands-on support during process trials, troubleshooting activities, startups, and operational upsets
  • Contribute to a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
  • Support training and knowledge transfer activities across operations and engineering teams
