Purpose of Position

Leads/facilitates financial reporting, analytics, and accounting functions for the U.T. System Administration and institutions.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the management and implementation of all GASB pronouncements for 13 institutions and System Administration.
  • Manages the consolidated annual financial report preparation process for 13 institutions and system administration, including restatements for all GASB specific requirements.
  • Works closely with external consultants and auditors to ensure appropriate research has been completed for all current and future GASB pronouncements. Informs, corresponds, and facilitates communication with U. T. institutions, the State Comptroller, external auditors, and key state agency stakeholders.
  • Reviews, interprets, and ensures compliance with GASB requirements.
  • Provides and coordinates training workshops for 13 institutions, specific to GASB requirements.
  • Manage direct reports and work to allocate tasks evenly across the team; identify cross-training and succession planning opportunities; responsible for driving team performance and professional development of individual contributors; conducts performance discussions and annual appraisals for investment accounting team.
  • Consistently communicates and collaborates with cross functional teams within System Administration and the 13 institutions.
  • Responsible for identifying innovative methods that will streamline financial reporting capabilities.
  • Designs, executes, and monitors effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, financial information is reliable, and applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures are followed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
  • 10 years or more of experience in the accounting, finance, financial reporting and/or auditing field

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA
  • Core Competencies: Manages ambiguity, action oriented, communicates effectively, collaborates, manages complexity.

Additional Information

The standard retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. However, the incumbent of this position may elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. Participation in either TRS or ORP is mandatory.
