Position: CAD/CAM & R&D Engineer

Role Purpose
Responsible for digitizing and optimizing the design-to-production workflow for wood and fabric components by developing accurate CAD models, nesting layouts, and CNC-ready programs. The role ensures precision manufacturing, efficient material utilization, and seamless integration between design, prototyping, and production processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop 2D and 3D product designs and components using AutoCAD, Rhino, or SolidWorks.
- Create parametric models and technical drawings for production.
- Prepare toolpaths and CNC-ready programs for fabric cutting machines, automatic beam saws, and 3, 4, and 5-axis CNC machines for wood.
- Collaborate with the R&D lead and prototype technicians to develop, test, and refine prototypes.
- Support innovation and product improvement initiatives.
- Optimize material usage through nesting techniques and machine simulation to maximize yield and minimize waste.
- Establish and maintain standardized digital libraries, including templates, parametric models, and cut-file archives.
- Maintain proper documentation of design changes, ensuring version control, traceability, and compliance with standards.
- Train machine operators and ensure accurate and efficient transfer of digital files to CNC machinery.
- Troubleshoot digital-to-machine issues and support smooth production operations.
- Conduct time and material studies for prototype builds.
- Identify process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- CAD/CAM or CNC-related certifications are a plus.
- Strong knowledge of CNC machining, nesting software, and toolpath generation.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Rhino, and/or SolidWorks.
- Understanding of wood fabrication processes, including cutting, machining, and finishing.
- Knowledge of upholstery and fabric patterning processes.
- Experience with multi-axis CNC machines, including 3, 4, and 5-axis machines.
- Familiarity with material optimization and machine simulation tools.
- Ability to maintain daily machine checklists and report breakdowns or spare-part requirements on time.
- Capability to perform basic troubleshooting and general maintenance on machinery.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
