Internship – Engineering & Data Analytics in Cloud Systems and Performance Optimization (all genders welcome)

In this internship, you will become part of a technology-driven engineering team within AUDI AG that focuses on the analysis and optimization of large-scale data processing systems. The team is responsible for developing and operating a cloud-based solution that processes measurement and trace data at petabyte scale and supports data-driven engineering decisions across the company.

The system is embedded in a data-intensive platform where performance, scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency are key success factors. In your internship, you will gain practical insights into how modern cloud systems are monitored, analyzed, and continuously improved. You will work closely with experienced software engineers, data engineers, and DevOps specialists and collaborate across interfaces with development and operations teams.

The internship offers you the opportunity to contribute to real production environments and to understand how performance engineering and cost optimization are applied in an industrial context.

Aufgaben

• You analyze and profile a cloud-based system for processing large-scale measurement and trace data
• You support the design and setup of monitoring solutions focusing on CPU usage, memory consumption, and network traffic
• You evaluate system performance, scalability, and resource efficiency in a production cloud environment
• You help identify performance bottlenecks and cost drivers in close collaboration with engineering and DevOps teams
• You derive, document, and communicate concrete optimization measures for performance and cost efficiency
• You contribute to cross-functional collaboration with software development and operations teams

Qualifikation

• You are enrolled in a degree program in computer science, software engineering, data engineering, or a comparable technical field
• You have very good English skills in written and spoken form
• You have initial experience with Linux-based systems and cloud or server environments
• You have programming experience in Java; knowledge of Scala is an advantage
• You are familiar with version control systems such as GitHub
• You have a basic understanding of CI/CD pipelines, for example GitHub Actions
• You demonstrate strong analytical thinking and an interest in system performance and efficiency
• You work independently and approach tasks in a structured and reliable manner
• You are interested in topics such as performance engineering, data-intensive systems, or distributed computing
• The final internship period will be agreed upon in consultation with the respective department.
