The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is a senior enterprise leadership role responsible for defining and delivering MetLife Australia’s end‑to‑end technology, digital, data and AI strategy. Guided by our purpose — always with you, building a more confident future — and our New Frontier strategy, this role ensures the alignment of business priorities, customer outcomes, risk management and technological innovation.

As a member of the Australian Leadership Team and Asia Technology Leadership Team, the CIO represents technology outcomes to the Board, regulators and external stakeholders, playing a critical role in shaping growth, operational resilience and competitive differentiation through digital transformation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and deliver the enterprise technology, digital, data and AI strategy aligned to business priorities, customer outcomes and global standards.
  • Lead end‑to‑end t ransformation, including roadmap, governance, funding, execution and adoption of AI‑enabled ways of working.
  • Own enterprise Data & Analytics strategy, ensuring strong data architecture, governance, quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee technology architecture, platforms and application delivery, ensuring stability, scalability and alignment to business needs.
  • Govern strategic SaaS platforms and vendor ecosystem to optimise performance, resilience, value and risk.
  • Lead the enterprise PMO, driving p rioritisation, delivery governance, benefits realisation and modern delivery practices (Agile, DevSecOps).
  • Accountable for cyber security, technology risk and regulatory compliance, including APRA obligations and regulator engagement.
  • Represent technology externally, building strong partnerships with key clients, vendors and industry stakeholders.
  • Own technology financials, including budgeting, investment prioritisation and cost optimisation.
  • Lead and develop a high‑performin g, inclusive technology, data and PMO workforce, building future‑ready capability.

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive (15+ years) technology leadership experience, ideally within insurance or financial services, delivering complex, regulated transformation programs.
  • Proven experience leading multi‑disciplinary technology teams (architecture, engineering, infrastructure, cybersecurity) and building high‑performing organisations.
  • Strong experience in technology strategy, enterprise architecture and SaaS/vendor management for mission‑critical platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with executive stakeholders and influence strategic outcomes across business and technology domains.
  • Strong track record delivering Digital, Data & AI transformation, including embedding AI‑enabled ways of working and governance in a regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership in AI strategy and adoption, including embedding AI-enabled capabilities to drive productivity, innovation and customer outcomes, supported by strong governance, ethical use and regulatory compliance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience engaging with regulators and assurance functions (Risk, Compliance, Internal Audit), including managing remediation and sustaining control environments.
  • Strong understanding of modern architecture and engineering patterns (cloud, APIs, data platforms, digital channels).
  • Demonstrated success in large‑scale transformation, digital insurance or platform modernisation initiatives.
  • Highly developed commercial acumen, with the ability to balance customer value, risk, cost and speed in decision‑making.
