Data Engineer: Building the Intelligence Layer of EV Mobility
About the Team
At ChargeSquare, our mission is to build the intelligence layer of electric mobility 🌍🔌. We aggregate EV charging networks, payment infrastructure, and connected vehicle telematics into a unified ecosystem. With thousands of EV drivers already on our platform and live integrations with global OEM vehicle APIs (Tesla, Volvo, etc.), we are now entering the next phase: Turning raw data into global intelligence.
About the Role
As our First Data Engineer, you will act as the bridge between raw data sources (charging stations, vehicle APIs) and actionable intelligence. This is a founding-level role where you will create the foundational architecture that enables our data-driven decisions. You won't just maintain pipelines; you will architect the backbone that will power smart charging, predictive routing, and fleet analytics.
Responsibilities 🛠️
- Architect the Foundation: Design and implement our company-wide data model and high-performance warehouse using ClickHouse.
- Real-Time Intelligence: Build scalable pipelines to process millions of signals from charging stations, user sessions & vehicle telematics in real-time.
- Infrastructure & Reliability: Deploy and manage data services within Kubernetes environments, ensuring high availability and resilience.
- Bridge the Ecosystem: Collaborate with the Java-based backend team to create REST APIs that serve processed data to downstream applications.
- Monitor & Optimize: Implement robust monitoring and alerting (Prometheus/Grafana) and optimize pipeline performance for low-latency analytics.
Expected Qualifications 🎓
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar data-focused role in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong Software Engineering skills with proficiency in Java (Primary) and Python.
- Hands-on experience with ClickHouse (or similar columnar/NoSQL databases).
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong proficiency in SQL for data manipulation and optimization.
- Familiarity with real-time data processing and streaming architectures (e.g., Kafka).
- Experience with monitoring and observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
- Strong problem-solving skills and a "builder" mindset — you thrive in zero-to-one environments.
- Strong English communication skills, written and verbal.
Tech Stack 🚀

- Infrastructure: Kubernetes (K8s), Docker.
- Monitoring: Prometheus, Grafana.
- Data Modeling: dbt (preferred).
- Context: Connected Vehicle APIs (Tesla, Volvo), OCPP Protocols.
