Zimbabwe faces significant challenges affecting children and adolescents, particularly girls, including:

  • High rates of child marriage and early pregnancy
  • School dropouts due to financial hardship and social factors
  • Limited access to health, education, and protection services

Efficient supply chain systems are critical to ensuring delivery of essential goods and services that support UNICEF programmes and national systems.

The Supply and Logistics Specialist will lead and manage supply chain operations for UNICEF Zimbabwe, ensuring effective delivery of goods, services, and construction works supporting programme outcomes for children.

Key Responsibilities

1. Supply Chain Management & Service Delivery

  • Plan and oversee end-to-end supply chain operations
  • Develop procurement strategies and manage contracts
  • Ensure timely customs clearance, warehousing, and distribution
  • Monitor KPIs and address bottlenecks through data analysis
  • Maintain high standards of integrity, accountability, and efficiency

2. Emergency Preparedness & Response

  • Develop and implement emergency logistics strategies
  • Ensure readiness through stock prepositioning and agreements (LTAs)
  • Participate in coordination mechanisms and logistics clusters

3. Programme Collaboration

  • Work closely with programme teams to align supply strategies
  • Support proposal development, donor engagement, and budgeting
  • Collaborate with implementing partners and monitor supply components

4. Government & Partner Support

  • Provide technical advisory support on national supply systems
  • Strengthen supply chain capacity within government institutions
  • Promote sustainable and efficient national logistics systems

5. Innovation & Market Development

  • Support rollout of innovative supply solutions
  • Promote best practices and efficiency improvements
  • Contribute to local market development initiatives

6. UN Volunteer Contribution

  • Promote volunteerism within the assignment
  • Participate in UNV activities and reporting
  • Contribute knowledge-sharing and community engagement

Requirements

Education

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Economics, Procurement, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree + internationally recognized professional certification

Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in:
  • Supply chain management
  • Procurement and contracting
  • Logistics and operations
  • Experience in development or humanitarian settings required

Languages

  • Fluent English (required)

Volunteer Living Allowance: currently US$ 3,820 to US$ 4,270

UN Volunteers serve full-time in their professional expertise, supported by a benefits package, including a monthly living allowance to ensure a secure standard of living at their duty stations. These allowances are not intended as compensation, reward, or salary for the volunteer's service.
