Pro-Rata Salary Range of $96,900 to $107k Base (dependent on experience, skills and capabilities) plus 12% Superannuation + Smart Salary Packaging Benefit

The Opportunity:

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) account for up to 80% of deaths in the Pacific Islands and Southeast Asia, with diabetes and cardiovascular disease two of the biggest contributors. The RESist-NCD: Building resilient and people-centred health systems for noncommunicable disease prevention and control in Pacific and Southeast-Asian countries program, is a multi-country country initiative that supports governments in Fiji, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia, to strengthen the prevention, screening, and early management of diabetes and hypertension within primary health care. It focuses on strengthening integrated primary health care models for diabetes and hypertension, improving health system building blocks, and addressing key upstream risk factors such as salt intake and food and water insecurity.

RESist-NCD also embeds a commitment to promote the consideration of gender equality, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI), as well as First Nations knowledges and principles of community engagement, throughout all program activities and our ways of working.

The program is led by The George Institute for Global Health, the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) and the University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney),and is supported by the Australian Government through the Partnerships for a Healthy Region initiative.

The Guunu-maana (Heal) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Program at The George Institute is responsible for the support and coordination of the GEDSI, community engagement and consideration of First Nations knowledges across RESist-NCD.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Project Officer (SPO) to support the delivery of this impactful program. This role sits within the Guunu-maana (Heal) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Program, which leads ethical, community-focused research and advocacy to improve health outcomes for First Nations peoples.

The SPO will report to the RESist-NCD Senior Project Manager (GEDSI) and will work closely with the RESist-NCD Program Coordinator and leadership team. They will be expected to function independently once familiar with the role.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Work closely with the RESist-NCD Senior Project Manager (GEDSI) and RESist-NCD Program Coordinator to manage Institute contractual agreements and administrative tasks
  • Develop and maintain administrative processes and program management tools, including milestone tracking tools and reporting templates
  • Regularly update program tracking tools and systems as required
  • Draft research ethics submissions linked to RESist-NCD activities and manage ethics submission processes
  • Support the Program Coordinator to process and track program budget expenditure
  • Support the Senior Project Manager (GEDSI) and Program Coordinator to develop and implement appropriate terms of reference for program governance committees
  • Draft and finalise, with support of the RESist-NCD Program Coordinator, milestone reports (including budget acquittals) for the funder, in accordance with RESist-NCD contract requirements
  • Coordinate meetings of the RESist-NCD Working Group team, GEDSI Working Group and other governance committees, and manage administrative tasks associated with minuting meeting discussions and actions
  • Support the maintenance of RESist-NCD program data in the SPoT database across all phases of the program (including impact data), and generate SPoT reports regularly to inform progress
  • Support the Senior Project Manager (GEDSI) in coordinating GEDSI-related activities, including analyses, reporting deliverables, and the planning and delivery of meetings and workshops.
  • Lead coordination of the program’s communications strategy and outputs, including developing and maintaining website and social media content, as well as preparing program impact case studies.
  • Support international travel coordination and related administrative activities for team members.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

Essential:-

  • Tertiary qualification in public health, international development, or a related field
  • Proven experience in implementing projects, preferably in the health sector or public health programs.
  • Experience working on projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural and collaborative environments
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, including the production of written materials for a public audience
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite of products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Highly competent with budget monitoring
  • Highly competent with database administration and maintenance
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a larger team
  • Strong focus on quality of work and maintenance of excellent records
  • Takes initiative to identify and action opportunities to improve processes or impact
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing organisational priorities and ambiguous environments

Desirable:-

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant post-graduation experience
  • Hold an understanding of diabetes and hypertension prevention and control strategies
  • Experience with the administrative requirements of projects funded by multilateral or government agencies.
  • Experience using Canva and/or other design platforms to develop external communications materials (e.g., social media tiles, factsheets, presentations), or willingness and ability to learn these skills.
