The Opportunity:
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) account for up to 80% of deaths in the Pacific Islands and Southeast Asia, with diabetes and cardiovascular disease two of the biggest contributors. The RESist-NCD: Building resilient and people-centred health systems for noncommunicable disease prevention and control in Pacific and Southeast-Asian countries program, is a multi-country country initiative that supports governments in Fiji, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia, to strengthen the prevention, screening, and early management of diabetes and hypertension within primary health care. It focuses on strengthening integrated primary health care models for diabetes and hypertension, improving health system building blocks, and addressing key upstream risk factors such as salt intake and food and water insecurity.
RESist-NCD also embeds a commitment to promote the consideration of gender equality, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI), as well as First Nations knowledges and principles of community engagement, throughout all program activities and our ways of working.
The program is led by The George Institute for Global Health, the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) and the University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney),and is supported by the Australian Government through the Partnerships for a Healthy Region initiative.
The Guunu-maana (Heal) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Program at The George Institute is responsible for the support and coordination of the GEDSI, community engagement and consideration of First Nations knowledges across RESist-NCD.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Project Officer (SPO) to support the delivery of this impactful program. This role sits within the Guunu-maana (Heal) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Program, which leads ethical, community-focused research and advocacy to improve health outcomes for First Nations peoples.
The SPO will report to the RESist-NCD Senior Project Manager (GEDSI) and will work closely with the RESist-NCD Program Coordinator and leadership team. They will be expected to function independently once familiar with the role.
