Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Plumbing Inspector (I.C.S or H.H.S.) role located in East Brunswick, NJ. The Plumbing Inspector is responsible for performing field inspections of plumbing installations in residential, commercial, and/or industrial structures to ensure compliance with the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code and applicable local ordinances. Daily tasks include reviewing plans and permit applications, inspecting new installations, alterations, and repairs, and documenting inspection findings with clear, accurate reports. The role involves communicating code requirements to contractors, property owners, and design professionals, issuing notices of violations, and participating in re-inspections as needed. The Plumbing Inspector also collaborates with other code officials, attends relevant training to maintain certifications, and supports the construction office with technical guidance and recordkeeping.
Qualifications
- Valid New Jersey Plumbing Inspector license at the I.C.S. or H.H.S. level, in good standing.
- Thorough knowledge of the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code and applicable plumbing codes and standards.
- Demonstrated experience in plumbing installation, inspection, or code enforcement in residential and/or commercial settings.
- Strong technical skills, including the ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and permits.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with contractors, design professionals, property owners, and municipal staff.
- Strong organizational skills, including accurate documentation, time management, and maintenance of inspection records.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, apply codes consistently, and make impartial decisions in the field.
- Comfort working independently in the field and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary municipal team.
- Basic computer proficiency for using municipal software, email, and electronic record systems.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to inspection sites within the municipality.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or coursework in plumbing or construction technology is preferred.
- Prior municipal or public-sector inspection experience is strongly preferred.
