Are you interested in serving on a Board that creates opportunities for the success of immigrants and migrants, and focuses on building equitable communities? We are looking for volunteer Board Members for Impact North Shore, formerly, North Shore Multicultural Society. While we welcome all qualified candidates, we are particularly interested in seeking Board Members that have experience working in or serving on Boards of non-profit organizations.

Impact North Shore is a for-purpose organization that offers comprehensive and innovative services for newcomers and works to strengthen inclusion and equity in our community. We serve over 7,000+ clients through settlement, community connections, employment and English language services, as well as school support programs. Impact North Shore also initiates innovative projects to further the goal of building equitable communities.

Impact North Shore is seeking dedicated individuals to join our Board who are passionate about our mission, committed to collaborative approaches and uphold our organizational values of working together, upholding each other, and responsibility to our community. The Board is the governing body for Impact North Shore and provides ethical stewardship to support the achievement of Impact North Shore’s mission and vision.

Board Members are responsible to: Board of Directors

Board Member responsibilities:

  • Commit to the Mission, Vision and Values of Impact North Shore
  • Adhere to legal requirements and policies
  • Prepare for and attend: Regular Board meetings (5 per year: February, April, June, September, November), Board Committee Meetings (5 per year: February, April, June, September, November), and Annual General Meeting (September)
  • Serve on a Board Committee with at least five meetings per year; attend all meetings and engage in the work of the Committee
  • Participate in the organization’s strategic planning process
  • Participate in the annual Board self-evaluation
  • Participate in Board education
  • Be an ambassador for Impact North Shore
  • Keep informed about immigration policy and other emerging issues and trends relevant to the organization.

Time Commitment: Initial term of one year with possible extensions beyond that for a total of 9 years.

Commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion: Impact North Shore actively engages in equity work. We have a long-standing history of creating a diverse Board and staff team and are looking for Board members who centre learning, humility and collaborative approaches in accordance with our EDI governance policies. Individuals with life experience and knowledge of promising practices in EDI are encouraged to apply and we are particularly interested in receiving applications from Black, Indigenous, persons of colour, LGBTQIA2S+, people with lived experience of im/migration, and people who hold marginalized identities.

Application Process: At this moment, we are looking for candidates who fit the following profile:

  • IT Systems Management/Cybersecurity/Artificial Intelligence designation or substantial work experience.

We are also interested in hearing from candidates who have a Filipino, Korean, Persian or Ukrainian heritage in order to reflect the communities we serve. Preferred applicants live or work on the North Shore.
