Are you an Project Manager or an Sr. Project Engineer ready to step into a Project Manager role? This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of impactful CAPEX projects within a technically challenging environment. We are seeking a driven and hands-on Project Manager with a strong HSE mindset and a background in the Oil & Gas or Mining industry.
Your Role
As Project Manager, you will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of projects, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution. You will operate at the intersection of engineering, operations, and contractors while maintaining full control over scope, budget, and schedule.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing project scopes in close collaboration with internal stakeholders
- Preparing and managing CAPEX plans (typically €1M–€1.5M projects)
- Creating work breakdown structures (WBS) and detailed execution plans
- Managing resources, contractors, and service providers
- Drafting and overseeing contracts and procurement processes
- Coordinating site activities including equipment, logistics, and contractor execution
- Monitoring project progress using tools such as S-curves and cost tracking
- Identifying and mitigating schedule and cost deviations
- Leading quality control and safety inspections during execution
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards, company procedures, and HSE regulations
- Managing permits, materials, and long lead items procurement
- Driving Management of Change (MOC) processes
- Overseeing commissioning, start-up, and project handover
- Delivering complete as-built documentation and training
- Capturing and implementing lessons learned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Several years of experience as a Project Engineer (Mechanical)
- 2–3 years of experience as a Project Manager, or ready to step up
- Proven experience delivering CAPEX projects (€1M – €1.5M)
- Background in Oil & Gas or Mining
- Strong HSE mindset and commitment to safe working practices
- Experience with contractor management and stakeholder engagement
- Solid understanding of project controls, budgeting, and planning tools
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Preferably based in or near Cape Town
