We are seeking an experienced Product Owner to lead data engineering and analytics initiatives within a retail environment. This role will partner closely with business stakeholders and technical teams to define requirements, manage backlogs and roadmaps, oversee ELT projects in hybrid cloud environments, and drive successful delivery of data-focused solutions. The ideal candidate combines strong product ownership, business analysis, and project management experience with a practical understanding of SQL, data modeling, cloud platforms, and business intelligence tools.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and drive data-focused initiatives, owning implementations from requirements gathering through delivery, without relying on centralized PMO resources for smaller projects.
- Serve as the primary liaison between internal business partners and technical teams, framing problems, leading discussions, and acting as a trusted ambassador for the data function.
- Gather, analyze, and translate business requirements into clear backlog items, roadmaps, and delivery plans.
- Oversee and coordinate ETL/ELT-related initiatives, with a primary focus on ELT in hybrid cloud environments.
- Use SQL at a practical level to query databases, understand data relationships, and validate requirements and outputs.
- Standardize product and project management artifacts, including backlogs, roadmaps, templates, and customer engagement models.
- Track and report on KPIs such as cycle times, delivery efficiency, and team performance as part of a maturing product management function.
- Establish and manage OKR frameworks to support implementation, business analysis, and project management capabilities.
Must-Haves:
- 3+ Years’ experience in a similar role as a Product Owner for Business Units which drive Data Engineering & Analytics.
- 3 Additional years of experience in Project Management and/or Business/Data Analyst roles, with specific expertise in data environments at-scale.
- Professional experience in the Retail industry.
- Solid business analysis skills, including requirements elicitation and stakeholder management.
- Working knowledge of SQL querying and data modeling, with the ability to explore tables, columns, and data relationships.
- Experience working in hybrid cloud environments using major public cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Experience with BI and reporting tools (DOMO, Tableau, etc.).
Nice-to-Haves:
- Familiarity with tools and platforms such as Informatica, Snowflake, and Excel.
- Exposure to data science concepts and analytics-driven decision-making.
- Experience helping organizations mature their product management practices, including backlog governance and roadmap standardization.
- Background working with both technically oriented and business-focused stakeholders.
