Recruitment and labour hire still runs on duct tape — spreadsheets, disconnected portals, and hours of manual admin that should've been automated a decade ago. At ZREC, we're building the technology that fixes it, and it's already live, in production, solving real problems at scale.
We're a small, sharp team and we're looking for a strong backend engineer (we're also open to a strong full-stack engineer) to help us build the core of the platform.
What you'll do:
- Design, build and own backend services end-to-end — not tickets handed down, but real problems you take from idea to production
- Ship to production multiple times a week. No three-month release trains, no change-advisory-board purgatory
- Work on systems that run at scale and matter to real customers from day one
- Shape architecture and engineering practices as we grow — your fingerprints will be all over how this thing is built
- Collaborate closely with a 7-person team, reporting to the Engineering Manager
The stack:
TypeScript, AWS Lambda, DynamoDB and friends. Serverless, event-driven, and built to scale without the legacy baggage. If you like building things properly the first time rather than patching someone else's mess, you'll feel at home.
What's in it for you:
- Real impact, real scale — your code goes live multiple times a week and solves genuine problems in production, not a sandbox
- Ownership — a small team means a real seat at the table and visible influence on what we build and how
- Hybrid that works — 3 days in our Melrose Park office, 2 from home
- A team you'll actually want to be around — genuinely collaborative, low-ego, and a bit of fun. Team lunches, monthly socials, and end-of-quarter events
- We back your wellbeing — monthly contribution toward gym / wellness memberships
- Greenfield work — build it right, not babysit the legacy
About you:
- An experienced backend engineer (mid–senior) who's shipped production software that real people depend on
- Strong with TypeScript and serverless / AWS (Lambda, DynamoDB or similar) — or sharp enough to get there fast
- Comfortable owning problems end-to-end with minimal hand-holding
- Pragmatic — you know when to ship and when to polish
- Bonus: experience in HR tech, recruitment, marketplaces, or B2B SaaS
