The Chorover laboratory seeks a full-time postdoctoral scholar to support on a Strategic Environmental Research and Development (SERDP) project focusing on the use of engineered colloidal polymeric sorbents for the remedial uptake and retention of poly- and per-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in porous geomedia.

Duties & Responsibilities

The postdoctoral scholar will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • organic synthesis of colloidal polymers
  • column experiments to measure the reactive transport and adhesion of colloidal polymers in sand media representative of aquifer solids
  • column and batch experiments to quantify the uptake of various PFAS species
  • data analysis
  • manuscript writing
  • graduate student mentoring

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a Ph.D. in environmental science, soil science, chemistry, hydrology, or a related field upon hire.
  • Demonstrated capabilities for conducting bench-scale environmental chemistry experiments.
  • Prior experience with liquid-chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) methods for analysis of various PFAS species.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in conducting highly precise solute transport experiments for porous media at bench scale.
  • Prior experience with multiple reaction monitoring experiments using LC-MS/MS.
