Deputy Director (Communications) in the Communications and Institutional Research Office [Ref. R/186/26]

Reporting to the Chief Communications and Global Affairs Officer, the position of Deputy Director (Communications) will be responsible for leading and coordinating communications strategy and execution. The appointee will support the Chief Communications and Global Affairs Officer in setting communication priorities, overseeing major messaging initiatives, and ensuring high-quality, consistent content across channels. This role helps position the University’s work to key stakeholders.

Duties

  • Support development and implementation of communications strategy aligned with University goals;
  • Lead planning and execution of media relations, social media and marketing, institutional events and stakeholder communications;
  • Manage proactive communications calendars for campaigns, launches, and University milestones;
  • Coordinate with Associate Directors to deliver high standard works to promote University’s branding;
  • Ensure brand consistency and editorial quality across all communications;
  • Track communications performance and provide insights to improve outcomes;
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop staff;
  • Support crisis and rapid-response communications efforts as needed; and
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A Master’s/Bachelor’s degree in Communications/Marketing or Public Relations with at least 12 years of post-qualification working experience, including at least 3 years in senior managerial level;
  • Strong connections with local and overseas media, and good knowledge of Hong Kong’s tertiary education sector;
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with outstanding organising ability; and
  • Excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua) are required.
  • Sound experience in institutional level public relations and communications is preferred.
