Junior Engineer: Applied Physics & Computational Modeling

Technology Innovation Institute

Abu Dhabi

Description

Technology Innovation Institute (TII) is a publicly funded research institute, based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It is home to a diverse community of leading scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and researchers from across the globe, transforming problems and roadblocks into pioneering research and technology prototypes that help move society ahead.

Job Role:

A versatile Junior Engineer to contribute across our experimental and digital workstreams. This is a role designed for a candidate who is comfortable in high-performance computing and field-testing site. You will support the end-to-end lifecycle of thermal signature management from the physical measurement of platforms (drones, maritime vessels, vehicles) to the computational development (e.g., GPU-acceleration, radiometric simulations, AI-driven detection models).

Job Responsibilities:

· Operate and maintain technical measurement equipment and sensors (cameras, thermal sensors, and radiometers,…)

· Support planning and execution of field tests across different platforms and environments.

· Ensure reliable data collection through proper setup, calibration, and basic troubleshooting.

· Participate in the building of complex 3D environments for thermal signature simulations.

· Contribute to improving software tools and data processing workflows (simulation codebases, GPU efficiency…)

· Support research and implementation of atmospheric effects on multi-spectral light transport.

· Assist in the development of AI algorithms for target detection & identification.

· Coordinate with internal and external partners for test planning.

Qualification and Experience:

· Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (e.g. Applied Physics, Aerospace, Optical,…) or a related field with computational focus.

· Exposure to one or more of the following is beneficial:

o Sensors, imaging systems, or measurement equipment

o Data analysis or scientific programming (e.g., Python)

o Simulation tools or modeling

o Field testing or experimental work
