Child Protection Social Worker (MSW Preferred)

Contract | Travel-Based Role | Bureau of Indian Affairs | Northeastern Montana

We’re hiring an experienced child protection social worker to support the Bureau of Indian Affairs under an established contract serving Native American families in northeastern Montana. This is a high-impact opportunity for professionals who thrive in autonomous, mission-driven work.

This is a non-clinical child protection role. Direct experience with assessments, interventions, and removals is strongly preferred.

The position includes paid travel to and from Montana as well as paid lodging while deployed.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct interviews, assessments, and home visits with children and families.
  • Make safety decisions, including removals when necessary, and develop interventions.
  • Coordinate placements, transportation, and case planning services.
  • Prepare court filings within required timelines and provide testimony as needed.
  • Collaborate with BIA staff, tribal officials, and on-site team members.

What We’re Looking For

Required:

  • BSW required; MSW preferred
  • Hands-on child protection, child welfare, or child safety experience
  • Experience making independent field-based safety decisions
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to pass a federal background check

Strongly Preferred:

  • MSW degree
  • Experience with tribal, rural, or underserved communities
  • Comfort working independently and managing your own schedule
