Summary:
The Retail Performance Manager is responsible for the successful operation and performance of Carhartt WIP’s North American brick & mortar retail store locations. Responsible for sales strategy and visual merchandising with a particular focus on talent management, training and development, and customer experience. This role will require 30% travel to our retail store locations and will require you to work in-store 50% of your time. Weekend hours are required. This role will report to the General Manager - North America.
Core Responsibilities:
- Drive and maximize sales performance to consistently achieve budget objectives through strategic initiatives, partnering with General Manager and Finance on forecasting and expense planning by store.
- Analyze KPIs, client data, sell-through, and key metrics by door to identify trends, opportunities, and inform business decisions.
- Conduct regular store visits to review performance, assess visual merchandising execution, and ensure compliance with brand service protocols.
- Work with Retail Operations Manager to ensure consistent adherence to operational standards including inventory accuracy, presentation, and loss prevention.
- Research market competition with a focus on establishing market presence and capturing competitive market share.
- Drive the implementation of company strategies by motivating and supporting store management teams in achieving targets and tier-growth strategies.
- Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous development through personalized coaching, leadership, and constructive feedback.
- Demonstrate effective managerial competencies of team building and collaboration.
- Oversee talent acquisition, succession planning, and team development to attract, retain, and build a high-performing talent pipeline through networking and competitive shopping.
- Ensure a consistent and branded onboarding experience for new hires, including product knowledge sessions and product introduction.
- Partner with Human Resources Manager on complex employee relations issues, performance check-ins, and salary planning.
- Identify opportunities and build tailored development plans for all retail employees.
- Work with Inventory and Demand Analyst to identify product needs and ensure regular backfill of sold-through items.
- Create and maintain retail customer experience standards and product detail manuals.
- Support new store openings, pop-ups, and special projects, acting as brand ambassador at events and fostering local client relationships.
- Provide periodic comprehensive reporting to management.
Key Requirements
- 5 - 7 years in store management, including experience working on the sales floor of an apparel retail store.
- Operates with a high degree of ethics and integrity.
- Highly analytic with a strong business acumen; able to interpret data, performance metrics, and selling reports to make informed decisions and manage within budget.
- Proficient in retail math, CRM usage, Excel (including VLookup and Pivot functions), NetSuite, and Shopify POS.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
- Collaborative and decisive, with experience working across multiple teams to develop and execute strategies.
- Flexible, adaptable, reliable, and able to work well under pressure with strong organizational and project management skills.
- Able to quickly assess and anticipate needs and provide the highest quality of service.
- Deep knowledge of the apparel market including Carhartt WIP’s competitors, client behaviors, brand yearly cadences, and current trends across all demographics with ability to forecast future needs.
- In-depth knowledge of apparel collections including fits, fabrication, and wash techniques.
- Leadership skills with a positive outlook and ability to find creative solutions to work through roadblocks.
Additional Information:
- Location: Full time at our Soho NY office. Hybrid work schedule, mandated to be in office Tuesday through Thursday.
- Traveling: This role will require traveling throughout North America to manage, support, and elevate regional store execution and talent management.
- Reporting Structure: Direct report to the General Manager for North America.
- Compensation: $100K - $120K
